Val continues to have nothing to offer other than being a target, she stands by the doorway and drops to full defense mode brandishing her trident. "We got the mace and plug, we can bail at any time!" She yells.

"We have to knock the devil out before we can move forward, or it will just follow us," Jocelyn says to Val. "But the rest of you should get out of range of these chains," she adds as she moves in to attack the Kyton with her newly acquired hammer.

Ouragana pulls the planetar to the relative safety of the corner behind the shelf (NE), and tries to make her comfortable.

Baeros rushes toward the devil hoping to tackle it from behind.

Ouragana finds the planetar surprisingly light, perhaps to make it easier for her to fly (and her wings have been ripped off). She drags her to the corner, navigating the chains when necessary.

With the kyton freed, most of the party attacks. Drav moves in first, swinging his new flametongue at the kyton. However, it maneuvers a chain in the way, blocking the attack. The kyton then sends a chain at Brock who blocks it with his shield and a second chain at Jocelyn, which is also blocked by Brock.

Baeros comes up behind the kyton, trying to grab it and hold it still. However, the creature easily sidesteps him. Thaddeus fires two missiles from his wand, but both dissipate before they hit the devil, absorbed by his own magical essence. Then Gallath fires an acid arrow which hits one of the dangling chains instead of the kyton.

Things don't seem to be going well, as even those with weapons that can harm the devil are unable to make contact through the mass of chains. Jocelyn steps up last, the hammer buzzing with power in her hand as if in anticipation of the strike. Time seems to slow down a bit, as Jocelyn takes the swing. She hears the kyton hiss in rage at the sight of the hammer, or perhaps it is the hammer hissing in the presence of the devil? It's not clear.

Chains move to stop her, but none seem fast enough. When the hammer strikes the devil, there's a flash of white light. The kyton screeches as half of its chest cavity vanishes into dust. It staggers back, then collapses, its body and all of the chains in the room slowly disintegrating until none remain.

Jocelyn's watches as the kyton disappears right before her eyes before she finally bends over her knees and lets out a deep sigh of relief. Despite being in extreme pain, she knows that the job isn't done yet. "The person that has the chess piece, follow me," she says as she makes her way through the chains and people to get to the place where the chess plugs go.

Baeros looks at the remaining of the kyton and then at Jocelyn, "Well... That wasn't too difficult after all." he says. "Maybe you should tend to your wounds first? And we should looks at the other creature too. Maybe tie it first just in case..."

Ouragana comes out behind the shelf where she had taken refuge. Wide-eyed, she looks at the now almost empty room. "What a powerful item!" she exclaims, looking at Jocelyn and the hammer in wonder.

When Bearos suggests tying up the planetat, she looks at him with forowed brows. "I didn't know you were one to tie up unconscious females" she says in an angry high voice.

Baeros laughs lightly at Ouragana comment. After all the stress of the fight and the grievous situation Jocelyn had put herself in just moments before, it was the exact moment for some humor. "Just being cautious. If you remember the little devil told us it might lost it's mind. So it might be even for her own good."

While Baeros and Ouragana argue over tying up the unconscious planetar, Jocelyn heads to the hall with the rook plug in hand.

"Wait, wait," Gallath says. "Let me do it." He takes the rook plug from Jocelyn and the king plug from Val and then goes to place them into the proper positions. Brock hobbles after Jocelyn silently, while Thaddeus puts his wand away and accompanies them, as well.

When the elf does places the plugs in the right slots, the wall where the chess board is slides aside to reveal a hidden room. The room is illuminated by magical light and is full of all sorts of treasure and wonder. In the very center of the room is a large icosahedron, glowing slightly with blue light. In the northwestern corner are five treasure chests, all open and spilling out with coins and gems. In the northeastern corner is a cabinet of the finest make. In the southeastern corner is a large cannon. And in the southwestern corner is a cage where Hopper sits. He jumps around, barking, but no sound emerges from the cage--he's completely silent.

(OOC: Here's the skinny on the Hammer of Disruption.

Under normal circumstances, it is a simple +1 hammer. However, it has two special properties. First, it cannot be handled by anyone who is evil; touching it will deal them damage. Second, when used against undead or fiends, it does double damage and twice the damage bonus against them. Skeletons, zombies, ghouls, shadows, wights and ghasts are instantly destroyed on a successful hit. Other undead, demons, devils and daemons have to pass a special save. If they pass, they still take double damage, but nothing else happens. If they fail, they are instantly destroyed.)

"I'm going to guess that thing in the middle is the anchor," Jocelyn says as she looks around. "Baeros!" she calls out. "Hopper is here!"

Hearing Jocelyn cry out Baeros looks at Ouragana, then at the planetar, then behind his back toward the entrance. A moment later he grabs the planetar, carry her on his shoulder and rushes Ouragana, "Let's join the others! Hopper is there!!" he smiles in excitement.

Val stands there a second and gawks. "Wow....just wow" she says. Val moves to the vault and just stares at all of the goodies just laying about. She walks towards the cannon and reaches out to touch it as she walks around it. "It looks just like a cannon, I was expecting something.....else."

Ouragana follows Bearos. She stops at the vault entrance, overwhelmed at first by the treasures. Then she pulls herself together and surveys the room. She's not interested in the cannon or hopper. Her gaza lingers on the treasure spilling out of the chests, but she thinks the real interesting stuff (for her) is probably in the cabinet. She does not enter the vault yet, however.
