WotL OOC Thread II

This 2E Dragonlance game is set in the city of Haven, during the War of the Lance. Haven is a city undergoing great upheaval. First massive numbers of refugees pour in, then the city is conquered by a draconic army. Can our heroes survive under this dark occupation?

Absolutely. And I like them better that way. A race of people who were created for one purpose that no longer is applicable trying to find their way in a world that hates them is way more interesting than monster mooks for the Big Bad.

I got a PM today from chese saying he has broken a rib and will be out of commission for a week or two. So I'll be formally taking control of his character until his return. Likewise, spyguy has been missing for two weeks, so I'll do the same for him.

So now there are only three people in the red team party of ten that I'm not controlling. I suppose it's a good thing I have so much practice juggling multiple characters.

Lol. We need to stay on his good side, guys. He outnumbers us in allies now! Not to mention the (likely) dozens of enemies...

If this keeps up you'll be running a game against yourself

Oh man, I really need to make a wisdom check here... do I do the really really moronic thing or do I return back to the party? Since I know 3.5 too well I'll just make a roll for this, 3 is a -4 bonus, the wisdom check DC is approximately 0....

Roll: natural 5 = 1 vs DC 0, pass! Haahqae doesn't try to get a chicken wing before returning the the rest of the group.

Lol. if you want a 2e wis check just roll d20. If it is less than or equal to your wis you pass. nat 1 always passes, nat 20 always fails

That only applies to attack rolls (although reversed), not ability checks or saving throws.

But anyway, I guess the dice god wants Haahqae to live another day. Or at least a short time longer.

I guess I was thinking of proficiency checks where 20 always fails, and 1 would always pass as long as the penalty wasn't more severe than your score... I guess I've always run ability checks that way and never really thought too much of it since it rarely comes up that a penalty exceeds the character's score...

Side question:
Since it involves artificial hps and not technically healing, would you allow Aid to apply to a character having been healed from 'death's door' that day (I.e. Haahque). I realize he can't fight or cast in his condition, but a stray shot and his habit of going first....

Hmm, well technically an Aid spell wouldn't heal him...it'd just give him temporary HP that would disappear when the spell ends anyway. So yeah, I'd allow that.

Well if we send the front line off to kill the priest there's not going to be many people left to defend poor little Haahqae and his notion that as the hero, it's his job to shoot down all those lizardmen or cast spells that befuddle them or something to that extent.

I suggest the forward party retreats and forms a kill-zone by the door we're near.

So far, histachii have show that they have a lot of melee attacks, but zero ranged options, this means with a doorway that's 1 square large, we can let 3 of them through and fight 5v3 easily, which turns the numbers advantage in our favor, despite how many of them there are. (3v1 may also be possible depending on how Jaded does doors, but I think 5v3 would make the battle go faster, which might well be a good thing due to the priest).

The priest is likely to cast annoying spells from the back, but there's only one of him, vs the 3-4? archers that we have, which will be able to take easy potshots on the histachii as they enter our room.

The only way we could stop the priest from casting, now that the invisiblility is blown, would essentially rely on Haahqae going on a commando mission via stealth and the empty space to the north, but due to the fact that that would be suicide and he's not some uber commando assassin (at least not in 2e), he won't try this.

(generally posted OOC since Haahqae isn't exactly some sort of military genius with godlike knowledge of everything that's going on in the combat).

Yeah, I have a little bit of knowledge about long combat rounds with lots of NPC's in them via play by posts. Fortunately Missing Quill has kept it rather tame, so far.

Lol, sorry Jaded. All those rolls and consequences, eh? 19 char combat is... messy at the least...

Haahque, Grubnick agrees wholeheartedly with your (player) combat assessment. He was primarily concerned with the priest causing magic-havoc or calling upon reinforcements (since he wouldn't like to fight 5 priests and another dozen Histachii). Now that the priest is 'neutralized' for the next 8 rounds, he'll gladly fall back to the narrow choke-point if we can get rid of the two Histachii behind our front-line.
