As far as Ouragana knows, the port town she grew up in is thriving. She hasn't visited in years, though. She was a foundling, so she has no family she knows of there. The place she feels most at home is probably the Storm Sorcerer Academy. In fact, she is homeless. That was one of the rasons why she asked if she could join the mage guild in Tu'Valie.

I had played in numerous campaigns that didn't last long enough to developed back stories in, and many of the people I played with where primarily kick in the door players. There had been a couple of campaigns for which I tried giving the DM back stories for, but usually it was just a glance at the page and never mentioned again.
I've been there.

The vast majority of games I sign up for as a player don't make it past the character creation stage, and when they do, they tend to die within a week or so. Those that last longer, I still usually never make it past 2nd level at best.

Eventually I started recycling backstories. I'd keep a few on file, and just change some of the names when appropriate, because that was less of an investment if the game failed. It was frustrating to write out a full bio only for the game to die inside a week or never even get going in the first place.

It's also frustrating when you're the only one in the group trying to roleplay or when the DM actively ignores any backstory you make. I remember when I joined Stik's game, he outright told me that I should never mention my backstory in-character, because it wasn't important to his game's plot and it would never come up in-game. I always try to incorporate backstories into the game when I can (I even have a whole arc dedicated to it), but sometimes there just isn't enough information in them for me to utilize.

I used to demand much more detailed backstories from my players, and would refuse to accept them until they added more detail. But eventually it just got tiring to constantly fight about it, so I just started rubber-stamping whatever was turned in, even if it was only three sentences. If players don't want to make a detailed backstory, for whatever reason, it's just something that cannot be forced, I've learned.

Alright, so a few things about Invisible Castle, since Jenara made a global announcement that is showing up in every forum, even my own.

First, IC goes down fairly often. Sometimes for a few days (it's only been 4 days so far), sometimes for a few weeks. It's inconvenient, but it always comes back up. It's not that big of a deal, really.

Second, when IC is down, it's easier if I just make the rolls myself. Given the choice, I'd really prefer you not use Unseen Servant. Those guys are elitist, cliquish jerks and don't deserve the extra traffic. If you've already gone through the trouble, I'll accept rolls from there, but I'd really prefer you just leave them to me until IC is back up.

So, fun fact: We have now been on this island for 7 months real time. @_@

Suffice to say, we're going to need a cooldown chapter once...if...we ever get off.

Also, off topic but, Happy Future Day, all!

I was wondering...it had been a week since you last logged in, and I was just about to start NPCing your character. Glad you're still around, and I hope things calm down a bit for you soon.

Now that some sports are over I may be back in full swing. Maybe

Getting confused on what happened during my temporary stasis. Anyone able to fill me in? I have read it, but still have no idea other than more plugs and some imp thing.

Okay. Your last IC post was here, four pages ago. You wrote:
chese780 wrote:"Seeing as they only trigger when we step on the plates, why don't we demolish them before they trigger?" Drav says motioning to the armors.
So here's what happened since then:

* Baeros awkwardly groped Jocelyn, much to everyone's chagrin. Brock did not approve.
* Granite found the floor panels that, when stepped on, trigger the helmed horrors. He and Gallath disabled both, so it's safe to walk around the hallway.
* The party went into an open room and found what used to be a prison for the trolls, before they broke out and inhabited the island. Searching around, they found a Quiver of Acid which Gallath quickly claimed.
* The party then used the club key (found in the bedroom) to open the door with the club symbol, discovering a library. Inside was an imp (a minor devil) named Kaakos. Kaakos explained he was the Wyvern's familiar and has been trapped here, dusting and maintaining the place, for 300 years because of the dimensional anchor, which won't let him teleport away. He explains that the vault (where the cannon is) is locked away and you need the four chess plugs to open it (he gives them the Rook piece). Problem is, the last piece (the king) they need is in the lab (he provides them with a diamond key to open it). The lab contains a kyton (a chain devil) and a planatar (a kind of angel) and the kyton has escaped its bonds. It's gone crazy, is trapped here because of the anchor and has been torturing the angel for years.
* Devils and other outsiders are immortal. If you 'kill' them, they just teleport back to their home plane. But since the anchor is preventing any forms of teleportation, the kyton cannot be killed permanently. It will just keep regenerating. So the plug they need to open the vault (where the anchor is) is in the room with the kyton. The kyton cannot be killed unless they first disable the anchor. This is the dilemma the party now faces.

So, slap negative plane protection on who ever wants to run in and grab the mace and/or key?

Well, the only person who can cast Negative Plane Protection is Jocelyn, and she doesn't have it currently memorized.

Besides, the spell Negative Plane Protection protects the recipient from energy draining. Kytons don't have an energy draining attack, so that spell would offer no protection whatsoever.

Not sure Gallath would see his ex-girlfriend's face, as she's not dead (as far as he knows). Maybe one of his parents instead?

Anyway, while we're waiting on chese, Nuke and xelphyn, I wanted to ask, Breila, when you say you are casting Dispel Magic 'in his direction' do you mean you are centering the spell on the kyton or...?

Ouragana knows she has no chance to make the devil disappear, but she wants to dispel any accessory magic, and perhaps confuse him. So yes, the spell would be centered on him.

I don't get access to invisible castle right now, so please roll for me.
