CH. 13: Resident Evil

Jocelyn shakes her head in answer to Gray's question. "The rest of us will have to wait until tomorrow," she says.

Once the woman steps into the room, Jocelyn looks up to her in surprise. She glances to the others for a moment before she stands and accepts the tray of strange meat from the woman. "Thank you," she says. "Who are you?"

Ouragana offers to take the tray, then puts it down near the light coin. Judging from the bone and meat, what kind of animal could it have belonged to?

Gallath looks at the meat and shrugs. He's had worse. He looks at the woman with interest. "Yes, who are you?"

Ouragana examines the meat carefully. The limb is far too long and thin to have come from any animal she has known. And yet, it seems strangely familiar in shape and form. After a bit of studying, it occurs to her it must be the arm or leg of a troll--hence the lanky length and the rubbery meat.

The woman looks at all of them, a bit frightened. "Ego...Ego sum Izana," she says. Ouragana recognizes the language as Eonian. She said her name is Izana.

"What did she say?" asks Gallath, but in a reassuring tone, recognizing the look on her face.

"Yeah, I didn't understand any of that," Jocelyn says with a sigh.

Val lays there and moans. She tries to take a drink of water and then rolls over on her back, flat on the floor

As the hours pass Baeros sinks to a gloomy mood. He even falls into short sleep and grunts every now and then.
He is awakened again with the woman arrival and the short conversation.
"Are you their friend? Are they abusing you?" Baeros stands up and get all tensed and angry again. "Are there other humans in the castle?" he looks at the party and says, "We must save them from the ogres. Culture shmulture, obviously their habits didn't improve over all these years!"

"It would seem so." Dahn says to Baeros
"But why then would they leave Drav alone?"

After hearing the woman speak, Ouragana looks up. "Salve" she says with a friendly smile as she walks over to the woman. "Ego sum Ouragana. Questo gente amici sunt." Her Eonian was a bit rusty, she was not used to speaking it, just working with texts. She hoped to get the message across that all the people in the room were friendly to Izana.

"Ego sum Ouragana. Questo gente amici sunt."

She nods and smiles to Ouragana in response.

"Fascinating," Thaddeus says. "She said her name was Izana, in Eonian. Could she somehow be descended from the Eonians? But then...'Izana' isn't an Eonian sounding name."

"Are you their friend? Are they abusing you? Are there other humans in the castle?"

Izana visible flinches at Baeros' outburst, as if afraid he was going to strike her. She clearly doesn't understand what he is saying, and seems to believe him hostile.

"Easy now," Thaddeus says to the ranger. "You're frightening her." He looks to the woman. "Habitasne hic?" he asks her. "Aliae sunt in homine?"

"Ego novissimus," she replies. "Meorum hic habitabant et servierunt maleficus."

Thaddeus nods. "She says she is the last of those descended from the wizard's servants. Ubi sunt tua parentum?"

"Parentes cum iuvenis moreretur," she replies.

"Her parents died when she was young," Thaddeus translates. "Interesting. We may well be the first humans she has seen since then."

Jocelyn places the tray of troll meat on the floor, then reaches up and grabs Baero's hand. While she isn't all that strong, she tugs him away from the apparent slave woman to one of the nearby corners. "Baeros," she starts out gently. "I realize you apparently have this thing against ogres," she says. "Even if she is a slave right now, they don't seem to be harming her. Matter of fact, they probably sent her in here for a reason. We aren't going to learn anything if you keep scaring her though, so can you please calm down?"

At first Baeros eyes widen at Jocelyn tug, but then his looks to the ground and says, "You are right. Sorry. And thanks for the healing." Then he takes a step back, away from the rest. "Tell her I was only worried about the treatment she is having from the... Djinni. And please ask her if she have seen Hopper by any chance."

Thaddeus says a few things to Izana and she replies.

"She says the people she serves call themselves the 'Oni.' It's not an Eonian word. She also says she hasn't seen your puppy, but that your other dog is still waiting outside in the yard," Thaddeus explains.

Jocelyn lets out a small sigh of relief, but she sticks near Baeros as she assumes this isn't easy for him. She makes a mental note to ask him later about his ogre issue. "So, the Oni," she says. "Does she know what they intent to do with us?" she asks.
