WotL OOC Thread

This 2E Dragonlance game is set in the city of Haven, during the War of the Lance. Haven is a city undergoing great upheaval. First massive numbers of refugees pour in, then the city is conquered by a draconic army. Can our heroes survive under this dark occupation?

Okay, so that's a bummer.

Both PCs in Blue Team are down. But the NPCs are fine. I'm not sure how to proceed. Should I continue the battle with the NPCs, and see if they're able to defeat the last horax and stabilize Kendra and Darga before they bleed out? Should I let Horizon and djhyland assume control of Pen and Crystal for the rest of the fight, and see if they can defeat the last horax and stabilize Kendra and Darga before they bleed out? Should I just call it a TPK and have you both roll up new characters?

What do you two think?

Well, I'm okay with whatever you decide to do. Of course I enjoy playing Darga, and would like to continue playing him. On the other hand, a new character might be fun as well...and seeing what the dice come up with and what kind of character might work with them is always a good time. Taking over an NPC is always an option I'd consider, too.

I think that the best thing to do is play out the rest of the fight, whether or not HorizonsDream and I take control of Crystal and Pen or not. If they survive and succeed in reviving Kendra and Darga, I'd be happy to keep playing Darga. If the horaxes get them, too, then I'll be glad to roll up a new character.

As an aside, Ismene and Mateo's conversation is pretty hilarious!

Okay, let's see what Horizon has to say.

And thanks. I had fun coming up with party banter for such a big cast of NPCs. It's interesting to see how their personalities collide.

I would hope not. Deus ex machina doesn't sit well with me.

I'm with djhyland on this one. I mean, I had a certain idea for Kendra, but I can come up with a new character if she dies.

Ha! I actually did consider the possibility of Corococco appearing through a temporal rift, but...I rejected the idea for the same reason djhyland mentioned--it would be a total asspull. And I've learned from past experiences that rescuing players with divine intervention never works out well, unless it fits well with the story or the characters (e.g., the characters are very religious and pray for help, or something like that).

Dang, it looks like Pen and Crystal are not doing so well, either.

In the (increasingly likely) chance that HorizonsDream and I need to roll new characters, I have a question about clerics. I see that the Holy Order of the Stars entry is left "intentionally blank" in the basic information thread. If I were to play a cleric (if such would even be allowed!), I realize that there'd be no official Order, as Goldmoon should just be discovering Mishakal right about now and Elistan's still a Seeker. But how would it work mechanically? Would a potential character be able to worship an "unknown" true god, or a Seeker god, or something else?

I mean, Darga may yet survive and I may not decide to play a cleric, but I'm considering it.

Well, it would depend on which deity you'd want to serve.

The Pantheon of Night is already fully active and out there, influencing the world. That is to say, there are quite a few true clerics of this pantheon in the world, casting spells, and so on and so forth. If you wanted to play one of these, you could, no problem, right off the bat. Although playing an evil cleric would come with its own difficulties in itself.

The Pantheon of Twilight is somewhat active. The gods in this pantheon don't really care about preaching to others, gaining new followers, and so forth. They tend to be focused on whatever their domain is. So Shinare is just concerned about commerce and industry, Reorx is only interested in crafting and building, and so on. If you wanted to play a cleric of one of these gods, you could. You'd basically be on your own, though. The churches are not yet organized and are slow to act. It could be done, like with Coroccoco, though.

The Pantheon of Dawn is, at this point in time, not active at all. Goldmoon will be discovering them pretty soon, and eventually she'll spread the word to others. When that word reaches Haven, I'm not entirely sure. But I think it's possible the pantheon is reaching out to other people, aside from Goldmoon, in other ways. So it might be possible. You'd probably start out with having no powers at all, discovering your god, and then becoming a true cleric in game, as opposed to starting with powers right off the bat.

It's very good chat between the red group. Most entertaining to read :)

I'm going to be on holiday for 2 weeks over Easter and will probably not be able to post, Could you please NPC Gregeddin. Many thanks.

Oh, man. Two weeks? I'm worried you might miss some big stuff. Well, can't be helped, I suppose.

Keep in mind, though, that the spells rangers get are divine, not arcane. And at least as far as Jaymes knows, the true gods and their divine magic hasn't existed in 350 years.

Hi, guys. I just wanted to let you know, there is something wrong with my computer. I suspect it's a virus of some kind. Whatever it is, it's giving me a massive slowdown. At times my computer is outright inoperative. At other times, it's so slow it can take me up to an hour or more to just post a simple message.

Long story short, my posts may be arriving much slower than normal. I might even have to skip a day or two, depending on how it's acting; at least until I can figure out how to fix it. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Sorry to hear about your computer troubles, JadedDM. Don't worry about being slow on our account, though!

If you just need to get online quickly, you could try using a live CD or USB of a Linux distro. If you're unfamiliar with Linux, I recommend Linux Mint.

By booting from the live CD or live USB, you'll be able to access your computer's hardware without messing with your existing software. Depending on what other stuff you do with your computer, you may or may not find that you can do everything else too (basically, games are the sticking point for most people), but it'll at least let you get onto the internet without fighting a virus at the same time.

If you'd like, I could post a link to some tutorials to get you started. Good luck on getting your computer back under control!

Thanks. I did a system restore, and that seems to have helped...for now, anyway. Hopefully I can resume normal activities tomorrow.
