Re: WotL OOC Thread
Looking at it from a purely OOC perspective, though, even if Tulbas does convince Kendra and Darga to stay at the mageware shop while the rest of you go slay the giant, you are asking their players to sit on their hands and do nothing for however many weeks of real time it takes for that quest to end. In the same way, if Tulbas insists on staying home, you'll be the one in that position instead.
I wouldn't tell anyone what they should or shouldn't do in this game; it's a sandbox, after all. You're free to do whatever you want. But it is something one should keep in mind here. Assuming either you or Horizon/djhyland don't mind taking off a few weeks from the game and don't mind a significant XP difference amongst the party (some of you will be earning XP, some of you will not), then that's okay by me. I always feel bad when a player or players are left with nothing to do, though.
As for Raetmal's coma...yeah, it seems everything I do with him blows up in my face, huh? Well, believe it or not, I do have a plan for him. He will wake up, and soon...but not until it best fits the plot. (We DMs do have a flair for the dramatic, you know.)
Tomorrow, I'll fastforward to the next day (the 20th) in the morning, around 2 bells. Haahqae and Gregeddin will meet up with their group and Kendra and Darga will go meet with Crystal. I'll leave it to you to decide if you want Tulbas to go with one group, the other, or remain home. Regardless of which you choose, I can promise you that this will be the last time you'll need to make that sort of choice. Raetmal will definitely wake up before the party takes on any more quests after these ones.

Sounds good.
While I'm not concerned about losing a few people from the giant slaying party, as it was earlier stated that we might be over-prepared with all of our new hirelings for it, however this doesn't mean we should have everyone leave the party at the same time.
To add to this, Haahqae may have read about giants, but he's probably never seen one so he wouldn't really know if his party is too strong to need planning or too weak to win even with planning. This somewhat reflects how it's been a long time since I fought giants in 2E (or in general) and I'm not sure if I ever fought a giant with such a low level character (I'm still level 1! And level 2). So I also don't know very well how our party stacks up against it.

I'm sorry I forgot one day in game time is few month in real time. If Tulbas had someone else (some NPC) he could trust to keep Raetmal safe, that is get him out from a back door if someone burns the house, or scare off a burglar with some throwing daggers, he would prefer going with the party, but if such person does not exist, he will stay home and still continue looking for ways to help Raetmal, explore new spells, look for other wizards coming to town to see if there is a word from the Tower and start forging opposition to Darewind if he can.
About the giant, we have said in many many posts that we need to prepare to the task of stopping the giant, and yet we didn't. If I understand correctly there is not much time left it at all to explore the battlefield. Is there still enough light and a high tower or a place that the surrounding of the city can be watch from? Or maybe Tulbas did find some maps describing the area around? The mages can best choose their spells if we had a solid plan what are our intentions.

What battlefield, though? I was under the impression the party was going to have Jaymes track the giant back to its lair and kill it. Otherwise, I'm not sure what else you would do but just wait for it to appear again and hope you're in the right place at the right time?
Re: WotL OOC Thread
I've been intending to suggest we lead it out into the open with a singing and zither playing bard. Or perhaps an illusion of one for Gregeddin s safety. Pied piper style.
Re: WotL OOC Thread
I suppose you all can discuss that in the morning.
Re: CH. 5: Vying Factions
Are the two long swords being calculated into Gregeddin's encumbrance? He distributed them to Zoya and Mateo yesterday as promise of their contract.
Re: CH. 5: Vying Factions
Oh, yeah. I forgot to remove them from his inventory.
Okay, he's in light encumbrance by about 7 pounds then.

Re: WotL OOC Thread
When we last discussed these options we concluded it is much more dangerous to track him down to his layer for several reasons:
1. He/She knows the area much better than us and can trap us.
2. It's hills. Hard to fight there. Many boulders around.
3. The layer might contain more monsters and traps.
While on the other hand, open ground can:
1. give us the ability to maintain safe distance from the giant.
2. attack from multiple direction.
3. a lot of free space which is like canvas to the illusionists.
4. closer to the city and the refugees might be easier to redraw / call for reinforcement (suppose the giant becomes very weak and on the other hand so do us, other people might have the courage to step in)
It was said he attacks the refugees about every three days and the camp is pretty much contained so patrolling there would probably meet us with the giant.
On the other hand, tracking him to his layer might be much more interesting adventure with much more treasure and XP if we survive it... But we don't care about XP and treasure, only for Role Playing. right?

Re: WotL OOC Thread
The npcs we recruited may have a desire to go for the lair and gold, because we aren't paying most of them. Furthermore, Tulbas will need to be there to voice his concerns, otherwise I think Gregeddin and Haahqae will have no other choice but to trust Jaymes judgement. (especially as wisdom is both our lowest stat)
Re: WotL OOC Thread
We can track the layer after stopping the giant. (Have you noticed I keep saying 'stopping' the giant and not necessarily killing it? It might not be necessary to kill it, even though I wouldn't keep my hopes up that it can be avoided.)
Re: WotL OOC Thread
Some spells can. For Grease, specifically, the spell description says "The caster can end the effect with a single utterance." The only stipulation is you must be within casting range (10 yards) to do so.BishGada wrote:BTW, can a spell be dispelled by the mage who cast it at will? Specifically the Grease spell?
Also, as you can see, I've decided to color my text while you guys are split up. We split up all of the time, but this is the first time we've run parallel adventures. So Haahqae, Gregeddin and Tulbas will be the 'red' team and Kendra and Darga will be the 'blue' team. This should make it easier for you to see which text is for you and which is not, especially when battles start and things get more complicated.
Re: WotL OOC Thread
Agh, I spent a couple of hours working on the next post, and then lost it all when I accidentally closed the tab I was working on.
So, I'll update tomorrow instead.

Re: WotL OOC Thread
Bummer! I hate when it happens.
Sometimes I work on writing blessings to some family occasion and I try to make it rhyme and come up with interesting enough lines.
And then after losing it, it is very difficult to restore the ideas.
The good news is that the second time usually comes out a little bit better... So, it's all for the best
