Re: CH. 5: Vying Factions
"Aiding him? I think you have things a bit mixed up here. I asked him to help me with killing a giant, and he agreed, although apparently he won't help directly, only aiding us through lending some of his followers."
"If he is a renegade, how would you know? What would you do to him? How did he become so powerful?"

Magnus holds up his hand. "I'm sorry, but the answers to those questions have been classified by the Conclave of Wizards. In truth, I shouldn't have even told you what little I have. But I have been forced into a corner by circumstances and thus must be honest with you. It is imperative you understand not only the gravity of the situation, but also why I must be allowed to join your expedition," he says.
"You see, my sources have told me that one of the first things Darewind will do once he takes control of the city is to outlaw sorcery. Obviously, this will help in maintaining his charade, but it will go over easier if there are no sorcerers in the city to object. He has already attempted to assassinate Raetmal, and I fear Tulbas will be his next target. I have tried to contact the boy myself, but he has, perhaps motivated by paranoia from his uncle's attack, avoided me at every opportunity. I know you lot are associated with him and you will most likely take him on your giant slaying expedition. This would be a perfect opportunity to take the boy out; he'll be out in the wild and surrounded by danger. And if Raetmal only just barely survived such an attack, an untested apprentice like Tulbas won't stand a chance. I need to accompany you to watch over and protect the boy."

"So tell me mr Magnus; what should make us believe that you aren't behind the assassination of Ratmael. You seem to know quite a bit about him, you showed up right when he was attacked and you look like the kind who'd rather slip a dagger between someone's ribs then stopping someone else from doing likewise."

Re: CH. 5: Vying Factions
Gregeddin nods in agreement with Haahqae, "it does seem an awfully elaborate plan, why not just duel it out with darewind straight away? He's in the market square as we speak."

"Nonsense," Magnus says with a dismissive gesture. "I have been in the city for weeks now. Raetmal was my contact for this mission. He knew the city better than me, but I had more experience in hunting renegades. Besides, if it had been my intention to harm him, I could have used my magic to incinerate him. I wouldn't stoop to a mere dagger and I wouldn't be so sloppy to leave the job unfinished. And why would I need you two then?"Haahqae wrote:"You seem to know quite a bit about him, you showed up right when he was attacked and you look like the kind who'd rather slip a dagger between someone's ribs then stopping someone else from doing likewise."
Magnus chuckles grimly. "Now there's a thought. The two of us chucking fireballs and lightning bolts at each other in a crowded market square. Perhaps we could summon some demons or elementals to assist us and let them loose upon the city." He shakes his head. "No, the mundanes fear magic enough as it is. The High Orders of Sorcery have a reputation to think of, and just tossing magic in the streets would only make things worse for us all. Our methods may appear...obtuse to outsiders. And even I admit they can be rather...bureaucratic at times. But the rules exist for a reason. I was sent here to investigate Darewind, but when I arrived he was a nobody with only a handful of followers. Neither Raetmal or myself could have predicted his sudden surge in popularity and influence. And while I still intend to carry out my mission and expose Darewind as a fraud, my main priority now is Tulbas' safety. Raetmal made me swear an oath to the three moons to protect the kid if something should happen to him. I know that may sound...sentimental, but we are brothers in the Art and I intend to carry out my vow to him."Gregeddin wrote:"It does seem an awfully elaborate plan, why not just duel it out with Darewind straight away? Re: CH. 5: Vying Factions
"Well that does make sense. I guess you're on the team then? Although I'm still not sure as to how killing a giant for us helps you expose Darewind or helps you protect Tulbas. Or were you hoping Darewind was going to come with us so you could duel him outside the city? 'Cause I don't think that's going to happen."

Re: CH. 5: Vying Factions
"Raetmal was your contact?!" Gregeddin blurts out, his voice pitched high with confusion and disbelief. Something was not felling right at all about this. Raetmal would have mentioned something, at least to Tulbas about this. Raetmal had even told me that he knew of a black robed mage in the city, but if that was at the same time we were trying to disprove darewinds credibility why would he be so secretive? The bard's thoughts whirled round his mind.
"Can you explain then, why it is that two different robed wizards are colluding on the hunt for an untested renegade? Surely the responsibility falls within one order or the other, not both."

"I already explained that," Magnus says. "When Tulbas leaves the city, it's the perfect opportunity for Darewind to strike. I intend to be there to stop him when he does."Haahqae wrote:Although I'm still not sure as to how killing a giant for us helps you expose Darewind or helps you protect Tulbas. Or were you hoping Darewind was going to come with us so you could duel him outside the city?"
Magnus shakes his head. "You clearly have no understanding of the inner workings of the Orders. True, Raetmal and I are in different factions, but we have a saying in Wayreth--'within these walls, we are all brothers and sisters.' While we may have our philosophical and political differences, all wizards, regardless of faction, put the Art first and foremost. Raetmal is no renegade hunter. But he lives in the city and has for some time, and so knows its ins and outs. I am an experienced renegade hunter, but do not know the city very well. It only makes sense for us to team up."Gregeddin wrote:"Can you explain then, why it is that two different robed wizards are colluding on the hunt for an untested renegade? Surely the responsibility falls within one order or the other, not both."
Re: CH. 5: Vying Factions
It was true, Gregeddin knew almost nothing of the workings of wizards and their orders, with Magnus' words he had run out of ideas and objections to his presence.
"Well you'll have to spend some time educating me and my blatant misconceptions on this trip in that case. We'll meet in the morning then, but we can do the detdetails with all of the troop to save repeating ourselves."
At least if he is with us we can keep an eye on him, and he can't be around Raetmal... The bard thought to himself.

Magnus nods. "You have chosen wisely." He then departs.
A short time later, Biggs and Wedge return. "Well, that was it," Biggs says. "Nobody else was brave enough to volunteer."
"Some of 'em were scarier than the giant itself, I think," Wedge adds.
"We'll let you take care of the rest," Biggs continues. "Good luck."

Re: CH. 5: Vying Factions
"Has anyone came to look over him?" Kendra asks curiously. "I know that Tulbas mentioned Darewind, but I really doubt that he is going to look over him."
Re: CH. 5: Vying Factions
Tulbas quickly moves towards Darewind and what has left of the Holy Guard. He looks at the corpse and gasps in shock. "Darewind! He is dead! What is it? This is the Master justice? The man was out of his mind, but clearly vengeance if not characteristic of a good god." Instantly Tulbas regain his senses. He sees all he eyes turning to him and understand he had publicly put himself standing against Darewind. Fear crawls at the back of his neck, but now he understand if he backs up Darewind might use it against him and increase his power over the people. Also, the last scene made the crowd blood thirsty and from here Darewind will easily send them loose on the city.
Tulbas breaths deeply thinking for himself it might be his last breaths. "Darewind, I'm a true believer and I have friends high up among the Master followers to back it up, please tell me and all the good people in the crowd, that what had happened here has stopped in the middle and you are going to revive this man. Otherwise, is this going to be the punishment of everyone who doesn't follow your exact words? I believed the Master and you as his messenger are merciful and leading all of us, his followers, to a better future. With no more slaughter, starvation and control over our thoughts as the Seekers did. A future of prosperity, healing of the needed and freedom. Instead of this gore show, a merciful god would prevent harm from you and this person.
You promised us all a better future, you promised food and shelter, but this is not a divine action. Nora and her faithful people, with my help, did a lot to achieve this. On the other hand, your divine healing proved to work thus far only on you. You are here for months, performing in the street, while the streets are full with sick, blind, wounded and deformed people, many of them followers of the Master, and yet you chose to heal yourself and not them. From what I understand you have followers from since you have been outside this city, for more than a year by now, and yet non of them have ever seen you heal anyone. But still, your followers heart is true. They followed you without questioning and without seeking their own gain, otherwise they would ask for the healing. But now, after they proved themselves worthy, don't you think it is time to show them the true nature of our god, and heal them." Tulbas looks again at the crowd looking for nods and sounds of agreement.
"My uncle is lying unconscious for days, and even that I myself had helped a lot our people to gain an enormous fortune to feed, shelter them and buy supplies to help all of you," Tulbas turns and looks at the people around him, "no one came to see us and help. Surely, being so powerful to suck this man life out of his body, The Master can heal it back. Looking at this crowd, there is no difficulty to pick wounded and sick people whom require healing, my uncle included. And all of them are true believers. Isn't this the time to do it, to encourage our lines, to justify our advantages over the Seekers? Show us the true nature of the Master, the good nature we know in our hearts. Show us your divine powers." Tulbas voice starts to increase as he tries to gain the crowd support.
"Show us your divine powers and heal the sick and wounded as you promise so often! Show us that the healing is meant for all! Show us that THIS," and he holds up the withered corpse for all to see, " is NOT The Master way and that he is merciful. Restore this man to life. This has been leson enough but restoring him would be much better lesson for all of us of true kindness and humble. I'm sure if you do that he will be grateful and forever faithful to you and the Master from now on, and this would also remove all fear from our people that The Master is a vengeful god, and that they are doomed to live under your rules in fear that if for what ever reason you won't like their actions, or thoughts they will face similar fate to this guard."

(OOC: Sorry for the delay.
Did Tulbas notice any trace of 1st lvl illusion in Darewind healing?
Tulbas tries not to oppose the concept of a divine god directly, but to increase the crowd fear that they will face the same fate of the guard under Darewind's rule. Hopefully with showing the facts that a lot of them had faced in the last months that Darewind never healed other people, together with increasing their fear that this is Darewind way to handle matters, they will demand Darewind to do actual healing and even if they will believe he truly heals himself, they will suspect healing is not meant for other believers.)

"Thank you both for your help." Gregeddin says to Biggs and Wedge.
The bard then addresses the assembled group for the expedition, "Welcome all and thank you for your pledge of assistance. Gear up and be ready by the main gate in the morning, we'll convene around second watch to give everyone plenty of time to assemble. If anyone has and further queries or wants to do some team bonding before we head out, I imagine we can be found at the steel tankard this evening for some light entertainment."
As people disperse, Gregeddin whispers to Haahqae, "We need to see that hunter you know to fill him in, and we must inform the others about the plan, especially Tulbas."
OOC, I can't remember how time is listed so I hope second watch is sometime in the morning!

Re: CH. 5: Vying Factions
"Indeed, you've assembled a fine group of volunteers, each and every one capable in their own way and I look forward to seeing what we can do against a real foe like a giant. Would you mind telling them to meet us at second watch tomorrow?" Haahqae adds to those of the Abanasinian beside him.
When the others disperse Haahqae informs Gregeddin that they're most likely to find the Hunter in the Steel Tankard, and that they should probably head there immediately.
(Ooc: I'm pretty sure that only Biggs and Wedge came back in, not the assortment of all the volunteers. PS, yes second watch is in the morning)
