Searching the ship

Desolate and abandoned, the evil alchemist’s mansion stands alone on the cliff, looking out towards the sea. Mysterious lights and ghostly hauntings have kept away the people of Saltmarsh, despite rumours of a fabulous forgotten treasure. What is its sinister secret?

The keyhole is that of a normal key. The lock is placed in a way that even with the key, the prisoner alone wouldn#t be able to open it.

There is so little room in the cell that everybody except Kulop has to move out so Gustas can get in. Oceanus drinks the water quickly, he obviously hasn't had any in quite a while.

"About yay big 'en" Gustas gauges the size with his thumb and forefinger before straightening up and squeezing out of the cell. "I'll find the porker in 'ere I reckon" he says to the others as he moves to open the door to the adjacent room.

The room Gustas enters is symmetrical to the one he just left, except that instead of the hammock, there is a bunk bed with its bedclothes in an untidy heap. There is a wooden chest at the foot of the bed and a brass box under it. On the table are two books, one closed and one propped open against it.

After drinking his fill, Oceanus hands back the jug and says: "Thank you for the water, do you happen to have some food for me while I wait for the key to be found?"

"Hrumph." Brax gives a snort of indignation and pushes herself to the back of the room. "Thank you for the water." She smiles at Oceanus. "I'm sure there is food someone on the ship.."

"Kulop, would you be as kind as to help him look for the key?" She asks the Hafling and leans against the wall.
" Kid never learned to clear a room. Doors and corners, I told him. Doors and corners."

"I'm looking!" Kulop says insulted while searching his pockets and trying all sorts of keys, then he quickly returns to the parrot and ask. "Do you know where is the key to the prisoner's shackles?"

The parrot is startled by Kulop's sudden turn towards him and screeches, but it doesn't sound like any words. Then it ruffles its feathers, settles down and exclaims "Pieces of eight! Pieces of eight!"

I'll give you a 5% chance (01 to 05 on a d100) that one of the keys Kulop has opens the shackles.

"Look Birdy, we will get to those pieces later." Kulop tells the bird and searches the boxes in the room, also looking at the walls and behind the doors for hangs the key might be on.

"I like that bird." Brax comments with a grin, "Sorry, I want to get you free." She adds looking back at Oceanus.

"These books might be up your street Drake" Gustas comments as he moves to open the metal box that looks like it might have keys inside

Kulops searches his cloth for keys... he looks at each one carefully, then switch to another, "Ah ha! That must be it! Hmm... strange... well..." he continues this routine for a while and as none of Kulop's keys match the keyhole Kulop says, "This lock must be deformed! I had keys for a lock just like that." he looks at the elf, "Did you knock it on the floor or something?" then he continue searching at the room and boxes groaning, "I tell you, the lock is broken, my keys are just fine! We won't find a key for this lock. Unless... it fell out of my pockets." With that thought he looks suspiciously at the others and then continue the search with reinforced zeal.

"I think the sailor with the hook for a hand asked to be given the key when I was locked in here" Oceanus says after watching Kulop for a while.

In the boxes and chests, Kulop finds nothing unexpected at first, but when he digs deeper into the chest in the cabin next to the elf's prison, he finds, under smelly clothes, a small, locked iron box. There is also a spear, a dagger and a peculiar-looking heavy crossbow. All the weapons look fine, the metal parts are decorated with patterns that resemble seaweed.

"Plan 'B': we're going to find some tools and take that ring off the wall so we can get you out of there. We'll deal with the manacles later. Just sit tight, do don't go anywhere, and we'll be back soon." Martin looks away, thinking about what he said for a second, then turns back to the shackled elf and says, cheerfully, "We'll be back soon."
Any seagoing vessel needs a carpenter to do repairs. That carpenter must have tools aboard. Surely there must be a crowbar, or even a hammer and chisel, in that toolbox - something suitable for removing the staple holding the manacles to the bulkhead, even if we can't remove the manacles.
"No matter where you go, there you are."

As Martin Departs Brax shakes her head in confusion. "I would like to get you free.." Grasping the shackles in her hands she pulls hard, attempting to pull the brackets from the wall, her impressive shoulders buldging with the effort.

With a loud crack, the floor plank the chain is bolted to breaks, and the chain comes free. Luckily, below is the bilge and not the sea...

"Oh.." Brax blushes, "That was unexpected." (Ooc I forgot they were bolted to the floor). Taking the chairs she motions to the pirates room. "Perhaps you'd like to move to somewhere a little more comfortable?"
