Just one for now, although you can expand it later on to include additional animals.

Next up is your gear and equipment. You'll start the game with 600 gold pieces. There's a list of equipment in the Player's Handbook (Chapter 6, I believe) you can reference. If there's something you want that isn't found there, let me know, and I can give you a price for it.

Keep your encumbrance in mind. You have a STR score of 9, so you can carry up to 35 pounds of gear without any penalties. Between 36 and 50 pounds you'll fall into 'light encumbrance' which means your movement speed drops. Between 51 and 65 pounds and you fall into 'moderate encumbrance' which means your movement speed drops even lower and you suffer a -1 to hit. Between 66 and 80 pounds, you fall into 'heavy encumbrance,' which means your movement speed drops again, you get a -2 to hit and your defense suffers a -1 penalty. Between 81 and 90 pounds, you suffer from 'severe encumbrance' which means your movement speed is minimal, you suffer a -4 to hit and a -3 to defense. If you try to carry more than 90 pounds, you cannot move at all.

Money weighs 50 coins to a pound, by the way, so keep that in mind, too. If you have a lot left over when you're done, you may want to trade in some of it for some gemstones, which are easier to carry.

10 copper pieces equal 1 silver piece.
10 silver pieces equal 1 gold piece.
5 gold pieces equal 1 platinum piece.

Also, keep in mind where you are holding your gear at. You may want to purchase a backpack, belt pouches, sheathes and scabbards and so forth because pockets don't really exist yet.

Any questions or if you need help, just let me know.

Just to be on the safe side, you should probably get at least a week's worth of food.

Hmm...you can get one free animal. But any additional ones you'll need to buy or capture and train yourself. Also, you might want some training equipment.

A perch glove is a heavy arm-length glove of thick leather upon which a bird of prey can perch. Useful, if you don't like getting your arm clawed up. It costs 5 silver pieces and weighs 1 pound.

There's also bird of prey training equipment, which consists of jesses (leather bands with rings, attached to the bird's legs), talon guards (metal coverings for the bird's claws to prevent it from harming the owner during training), a creance (a slender leather leash attached to the jesses, held by the user or secured to the perch glove), and a hood (a leather covering fitting over the bird's head that restricts vision; the hood forces the bird to rely on its senses of hearing, touch, and taste). All of that together costs 10 gold pieces and weighs a pound. Customized or richly appointed versions, such as an embroided hood or golden jesses, are also available but usually cost double or even triple the price. (Sidenote: The training equipment isn't required, but you suffer a -2 penalty to training checks without it.) Also, you need a set for each bird of prey you train.

Let me know what sort of bird of prey you want and I can stat it out.

I'll take a falcon. Backstory: It was given to me by a man i met in the forest while hunting, when I got back, a demon was ravaging my town. My parents were dead. My girlfriend was the one who had summoned it (on purpose). My sister was missing and still is. I want:
a quiver, a short bow, dagger, leather armor, gloves, backpack, scabbard, a tent, camping gear, those bird items, heavy war horse, shoes, a dark cloak, 2 weeks worth of food. I'm rubbish with math, what am I at for weight and money? If you think that's good, I'll put 1/4 of the rest in a bank, 1/4 in a money pouch, 1/4 buried in a location I know well and keep the rest sewed inside my cloak.

Thrax (Spyguy's falcon)
Male Falcon
Age: 2
MV: Fl 36 (B)
HD: 1-1
HP: 07/07
THAC0: 20
AC: 5
Atk: 3/1
Dmg: Claw 1, Peck 1
Skills: Dive, Flight, Blind
Saves: PPDM 14, RSW 16, PP 15, BW 17, S 17
Morale: 6
Tricks:
Tasks:

Falcons attack via plummeting dives, usually from a height of 100 feet or more. This dive gives them a +2 bonus to their attack roll and their momentum enables their talons to inflict twice the normal damage. Falcons cannot attack with their beaks on the round they engage in a dive attack.

After the initial dive, falcons fight by biting and pecking with their beaks and tearing at their opponents with their talons. Falcons always have a 25% probability of striking an opponent’s eye whenever their beaks hit. Opponents struck in the eye are blinded for 1d10 rounds and have a 10% chance of losing vision permanently in that eye. Because of their superior eyesight, falcons can never be surprised.

=========

The above is the basic stat block for a falcon. Note that as you can train it, it can learn up to 4 tasks or tricks. A trick is a specific action performed in response to a specific stimulus, such as a command, a sound or a gesture. A task is a general sequence of actions performed in response to a stimulus.

Examples of tricks: Heel, Wait, Speak, Fetch, Withdraw, Come, Attack
Examples of tasks: Retrieve, Bodyguard

Let me know which tricks or tasks you want your falcon to know.

As for the rest:

Quiver - 8 silver pieces - 1 lb
Short Bow - 30 gold pieces - 2 lbs
Dagger - 2 gold pieces - 1 lb
Leather armor - 5 gold pieces - 15 lbs
Gloves - 1 gold piece - N/A
Backpack - 2 gold pieces - 2 lbs
Scabbard - 4 gold pieces - N/A
Small tent - 5 gold pieces - 10 lbs
Perch glove - 5 silver pieces - 1 lb
Falcon training equipment - 10 gold pieces - 1 lb
Heavy war horse - 400 gold pieces - N/A
Shoes - 1 gold piece - N/A
Dark velvet cloak - 8 silver pieces - N/A
Two weeks of dry rations - 20 gold pieces - 7 lbs
Small belt pouch - 7 silver pieces - 1/2 lb

That is a total of 481 gold pieces and 4 silver pieces. That leaves you with 118 gold pieces and 6 silver pieces. Dividing that into four, that means 29 gold, 6 silver and 5 coppers go into the bank, 29 gold, 6 silver and 5 coppers into your belt pouch (which weighs 0.8 lbs), 29 gold, 6 silver and 5 coppers buried in an unknown location, and the last 29 gold, 6 silver and 5 coppers sewed into your cloak (which makes it weigh an additional 0.8 lbs).

Your gear weight totals up at 42.1 pounds, which puts you into light encumbrance.

Here are some questions for you, though.
1.) You bought a bow and a quiver. Would you like some arrows, too?
2.) Did you want any equipment for your warhorse? Barding, saddle, saddle bags, and so forth? (If you have a saddle and saddle bags, you can store some of your excess gear on your horse, lowering your encumbrance.)

I'll stat up your heavy warhorse soon.

Saddle bags and about 20 arrows. I forgot that. Thrax (falcon) will learn retrieve, attack, come, and wait.

Unnamed Heavy Warhorse (Spyguy's heavy warhorse)
Male Heavy War Horse (Average)
Age: 5
MV: 15
HD: 3+3
HP: 20/20
THAC0: 17
AC: 7
Atk: 2/1
Dmg: Hoof (1d8)
Skills: Scent
Saves: PPDM 13, RSW 15, PP 14, BW 16, S 16
Morale: 7
Tricks: Carry rider, Come, Attack, Withdraw
Tasks: None
Gear: Riding Saddle [35 lbs], large saddle bag [8 lbs]
Carrying Capacity: 260 lbs (520 lbs max)
Encumbrance without rider: 43 lbs (moves at full speed)
Encumbrance with rider: 85.1 lbs (moves at full speed)

War horses will fight independently of the rider on the second and succeeding rounds of a melee. Most attack twice per round by kicking with their front hooves.

==============

The above is the stat block for your heavy warhorse. His tasks and tricks are pre-chosen, as he was purchased instead of trained by your character.

By the way, I noticed you bought shoes, a cloak and gloves, but no other clothing. Does your character only wear his armor then, even to bed? (Or does he sleep in the buff?)

I'll add a large saddle bag, put it on the horse. I can then place your small tent in the saddle bag. This will remove your character's encumbrance entirely.

Alrighty. Hmm, between Borak, Thrax, Takit, Hopper and Mist...at this rate our party might one day soon be more animal than man!

Anyway, with all the mechanical stuff taken care of, the only thing left is the easy part. Or the hard part, depending on whether you are a creative type or not.

I need you to write up your character's profile. I need to know his:

Appearance - What does he look like?
Personality - How does he act? What does he believe in?
History - How did he get to this point? What is he doing now?
Motivation - What drives him? Why is he doing what he is doing?

Oh, yeah. And he probably needs a name, too. :P

How much detail you wish to include is up to you. Obviously, the more details, the more stuff I have to work with. If what you turn in is very sparse, then don't expect many personal plot hooks to show up in the game.

Oh, and you can PM it to me if you want to keep it private from the other players, or post it here if you don't care.

My name shall be Gallath.
Appearance- Tall and thin, like most elves. Blond hair and blue eyes. He has a red streak of hair from demon blood and he cannot wash it out.
Personality- Calm and collected, he controls himself well unless fighting demons or demon related monsters. He absolutely loves his falcon. It has saved his life many times, and he has returned the favor. He enjoys the company of beautiful women. He also has a mysterious scar on his back that has never healed. There is a gap of one month in his memory, two years ago. He got the scar sometime during this time. He woke up in an inn of a town he had never visited. He also is somewhat mischievous.
History- Born in an elven village. He went out hunting one day and met a being who looked human (he wasn't. Up to you who it really was) The man gave him his falcon and some training gear, and told him never to lose it. When he got back from hunting, a demon was ravaging my town. It almost killed him, but his falcon saved him by slicing out its eye. That's how the blood got in his hair. His parents were dead. His girlfriend at the time was the one who had summoned it (on purpose). He still looks for her, but is no longer obsessed. His sister was missing and still is. While adventuring, he met a wounded displacer beast and freed it, but it fled.
Motivation- to find his sister, his ex, the lost chunk of memory, loot, and adventure!

I'll put him at 5'5" which is the tallest a male elf can get. And 125 lbs, so he's pretty thin. Based on the personality you supplied, I'll list his alignment as True Neutral but may change it once we see how he acts in play.

I've added his stat block (and the stat blocks of his animals) to the Character Stats thread.
