Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
"Let us go. There is lamp oil aplenty to be had outside this hole. Possibly naptha, too." says Barber. His gladius is out and ready, but he looks worriedly at the tunnel. His voice drops in volume and he croaks: "If these things all rise, they are between us and the exit."
[OOC] Sorry, no map as yet, but it's not terribly important at the moment. Here's a rough sketch:

.........Bbr......................
.Dur..............................
.Bas..........G.........................Exit --->
...Bmr.................G........

Should be obvious who's who. The two Gs are the nearest two dead grotdier. The one nearest the group is lying as it fell on its left side, facing away from the group, towards the exit. The other is face down.
Right now the adventurers are a few feet from it, close enough to see the puddle of effluent that spread from the body. [/OOC]

"Then we rush the exit. It's a short distance and we should have enough momentum to topple them should they rise." Bastian pockets his flask and makes ready to run.

"We'd be best to avoid the crap on the floor!" The old dwarf shouts, his legs moving slowly as he moves around the bodies.
" Kid never learned to clear a room. Doors and corners, I told him. Doors and corners."

Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
As Boomer steps around the corpse on the floor, eyeing the puddle of ichor, he catches a glimpse of the creature's front.
The sword wound that killed it is obvious.
Also obvious is the fact that the wound has been enlarged; its edges are pulled open and ragged.
Boomer has seen similar sights before, in the legions, when corpses have been set upon by rats that chewed their way inside. But so far no rats have been seen in this cave, and the hole in the body is bigger than a rat would need.

"Those be some huge rats." The dwarf comments to himself, "Young uns, "Something came from them, watch the floor"

Bastian cautiously edges around the bodies, staying as close to the cave wall as he can. While he's never had issues with death, he's always been uneasy around mangled corpses.

Durant moves with the group as they talk. Staying close to the wall, he suggests in a low voice. "I think the walls are equally dangerous if the creature came from the ground."

Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
"Walls, floor, not our problem if we leave," says Ash. But then he is taken by the curiosity that drives every medicus. He pauses to look at the nearest corpse. "Something chewed its way into this one. Something as big as a fist." The body rocks again and Ash says: "I think it's still in there."

Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
"Aye, it's still in there. Unless you wanna join him I reckon we should be leaving now." Hand on his sword he pulls Ash away.
Re: Borderlands II - This is the game thread
The adventurers advance into the large chamber of the cavern (the one with the firepit, which has openings leading to Ullo's bedchamber and to the chamber with the pigsty where they fought the caterpillar thing). The floor of is crossed with sparse trails of wetness and filth, thin at first, but more pronounced as they get closer to the first chamber. The trails lead toward the dead grotdier.
The grotdier corpses have been gutted by scavengers - their soft guts have been opened up and devoured, but the meaty parts of the limbs are as yet untouched.
Barber, despite his obvious fear, deals with the sight stoically. He barely looks at the bodies, and watches the path ahead, stepping carefully.
As the group passes into the first chamber, where the caterpillar thing lies dead, they spot movement between it and the pigsty. There is a large number of small creatures, at least two dozen, maybe three dozen, on the floor which is slicked with slime tracked outward from the pig wallow. More are climbing on the dead creature, in and out of the wounds on its body, feeding on its flesh.
The things resemble maggots about eight inches in length, and are lime green in color where they are not covered in rust-brown filth. Though eyeless, each one has several tentacles at its front one end. At present they take no notice of the adventurers, but the path out of the cavern leads past the mass of creatures, very closely, and there are a few others are wandering around the room, looking for other food.
The smell in the chamber, bad enough before, is far worse now that the pig wallow has been disturbed and the dead creature and grotdier have been opened up.

And everyone make a CON check. If you fail, and combat ensues, all to hit rolls will be at a -1 [/OOC]

(( Failed check, to start ))
Trying not to gag, Durant says in a low voice. "We can push past them if we move in a line and stagger our retreat on the way out, perhaps."

Bastian glances at his coin and mutters to himself, "I rather wish we had more torches..."

[OOC] So is that the plan? Run out and dodge the little beasties as best you can? They haven't really taken any notice if the group yet.
Somebody post an action, please.

"Let's have the person with the torch lead and the weapon users follow with attacks if they need to kill them." Durant suggests.
