CH. 8: Reunion

Ouragana looks incredulously at Mara when the woman places only the juice in front of her. "I asked for some of the special, too" she says, pointing at Val's plate. "Was I speaking too softly?"

"A ship," Jocelyn says with a nod. "Well, then I guess I'm going to have to go down to the docks, and ask around there about the ship in question," she says as she watches the others. "I'm glad that someone trying to kill me brings out your appetites."

Baeros smiles at Jocelyn... "Yeah, so it seems... it looks like you hand picked your friends..." he says with a smirk. Then he gestures with his head to Mara, "Err... The oatmeal looks d e l i c i o u s , but does any real food comes with it? Do you happen to have some meat? or eggs? and about that man, did the scum came with some friends, or did he meet anyone here?"

Ouragana looks at Jocelyn innocently. "It is mealtime, Jocelyn. Doesn't being out of danger now encourage your appetite, too?"

"Did you now?" Mara asks Ouragana. "Sorry, dearie, even elven hearing fades given enough time, I suppose." She turns to return to the kitchen, but is stopped by Baeros' questions. "Of course you can have meat, if you want. You should have specified. It'll cost more, of course. And no, he came alone and I never saw him talk to anyone else, but like I said, he wasn't here most of the time, just popping in for meals--which he often took to his room--and to sleep at night."

[Jenara]

"Oh... wait." Arei throws her hands in the air, downs the wine in one and tears the bread in half, "I'll come with you, why I chose the bread and cheese.. Can eat on the move."

"I''ll be more use down there anyway."

"It is more like I was shoved into strange situations with these people," Jocelyn says rather dryly to Baeros before looking to Ouragana. "Uh, not exactly, especially when I ate just a couple of hours ago," she explains. "But enjoy your meals, and investigate that room when you get the chance while Arei and I go to the docks. Oh, and thanks Mara," she adds with a small smile before she turns and leaves the inn to head for the docks.

Baeros tells Jocelyn, "OK, let's meet here again in a couple of hours, I haven't had the chance to rest a bit from the road yet. Don't choke on your bread, and don't get into troubles little elf..." He adds with a grin, eyes on Arei. Turning his attention to Mara he says with a hopeful sheepish smile and obvious eagerness, "Do you have Entrecôte by any chance? Medium-Rare if you please. I had rations for three weeks now... And maybe some fresh vegetables too please." Baeros starts drooling only thinking of the delicacies he missed for so long.

"Do you have Entrecôte by any chance? Medium-Rare if you please."

Mara frowns at Baeros. "Entra-what? Sounds like some kind of fancy Gontorian thing. I've got some steaks, though, if you want one of those."

[Jenara]

"Don't choke in general." Arei retorts with a grin, "That would be terrible.." With that she leaves.

Val takes a seat and waits for her meal, comfortable with her friends going to the dock. She finishes her first beers before her meal arrives and orders another.

"Errr, yeah... Steak! It's the same, just a portion that comes from between the ribs. That's how they call it back at Mond island. But by the smell of your cooking I'm sure every part will be just great." Baeros says grinning from ear to ear, trying to improve his first impression by flattery. Baeros takes his place in the table, "Ahhh, it's good to sit among friends who appreciate good ale and meal."

Jocelyn and Areilon head to the docks. Other than a handful of fishing skiffs, there were no ships currently docked there. A few longshoremen wandered around, performing their daily tasks.

Jocelyn knew that the dockmaster, an older gentleman by the name of Crispus, was likely in his office at this time of day, right near the piers themselves. Crispus was a quiet man, but always attended the weekly church services and was friendly enough, although he tended to get flustered around large crowds.

Leading the way, the two women step into his office. It's a small building, decorated by various naval memorabilia including an old ship's wheel on the wall, what appears to be an ancient underwater helm from Eonian days (now clearly broken and defunct), a couple of model ships, and numerous maps pinned up on the walls of varying detail and design.

Crispus himself stands at a desk, going over some documents and maps. His long black hair is pulled back into a short tail. His goatee and beard are well-trimmed and give him something of a dour, severe look. One would estimate his age to being nearly twice that of Jocelyn. He is making notations in one of his books, and hasn't yet noticed the arrival of the two women.

Meanwhile, back in the inn, Mara shakes her head. "Mond? Is that where you're from? Humph. Explains a lot. Wait here." She heads back into the kitchen and brings another plate of the special for Ouragana and a steak for Baeros. Once that is done, she brings another beer for Val.

"Good day, Crispus," Jocelyn says to get the man's attention. "I hope I'm not disturbing you, but I have a couple of questions I need to ask you. If that is okay, that is."

[Breila]

"Thank you" Ouragana says curtly when Mara places the food in front of her, and pays for it immediately. She eats in silence. All of her longed to be on a ship, either navigating it or teaching others to navigate, but it seemed like she would once again be stuck on an island and forced to go adventuring to make a living... and still she knew her magic less well than she should.
