Forum Guidelines...

Post by Jenara »

I have been thinking about this for a little while.

Cole has let me run this place on a day to day basis, but its not just my site its everyone's! So, I want you all to have your say.

I think it would be a good idea to have some guidelines, both for posting and for general conduct, a few pointers like the ideas below:

Offensive Language against fellow players will not be tolerated.
Spam of any kind will be deleted and the poster shall be blocked.

What about Sexual content?
Anyone who has read my posts know I am no shy retiring flower, I don't hold back my words, but there has to be a limit. Do you think the limit I have set is far enough? (Carith/Angel) Or too far, let me know.

All in all I'd like you all to reply to this with some guidelines we all should adhere to, not to spoil the fun (or else why play here at all?) Rather to ensure everyone is happy and feels they are respected and appreciated.

Please reply to this message with your comments :)

Well, especially in this thread here, we have characters that are couples, so "no sexual content at all" is not really an option in my opinion. And we play in a world where men and women interact and work togehter, and it's not likely that nothing sexual will ever happen. Also, we're all adults, and so any desciption of actions that are respectful and loving, and can be done or talked about in public, is fine with me.

(And as a mother of teenage children, I must say that I prefer descriptions in that manner, done by adults who like what they're doing, to schoolyard whisperings when it comes to giving my children an idea about what lies ahead. My daughter has stumbled across more and less explicit descriptions while reading historic and fantasy novels, and she gave the more explicit books to me, saying she didn't like that.)

So the "no offenses" guideline works fine for this subject, too. But I don't worry. So far, I have the impression that people who really play here respect each other and treat each other fairly :D.
There's more to me than meets the eye...

I am with Breila, you can't keep it completely PG with our community. So as long as we keep it... reasonable, I think we are good.

My first thought was to suggest we employ something similar to the "Grandmother Rule." (For those unfamiliar with it, the Grandmother Rule is a rule of thumb pertaining to what is appropriate behavior in the work place, and it states that you should not say or do anything in the workplace that you would not be comfortable to saying or doing in front of your aged grandmother.) But that is probably taking things a bit too far for a forum such as this.

With regard to offensive language, directing offensive or abusive language toward other players is unacceptable, and I would likely delete such a post immediately, but I see no reason why it could not be tolerated in character, even if coming from one PC towards another PC. And profanity will sometimes appear in my campaign, either for emphasis or to better portray an NPC. That being said, the way I see it, you can get the message across by using imitation/archaic profanity (drop a "frak" in there instead of a similar word) just as easily, without posting anything that might set off a language filter.

My campaign may at times include some "adult" material, but really nothing particularly graphic (nothing past maybe a PG-13 rating). Things may, however, occur "off-screen" from time to time. The PCs might at some point visit a brothel or drug den, and may meet pimps and whores and other questionable types, but the narrative isn't going to follow them out of the common room, even if they do go upstairs, so to speak.

Due to the general issues we had over the last few days, I am going to update this very soon.

AND I am going to post guidelines for requesting new games.

One last thing, while this site is owned by Cole, I am the only full time Admin here, I will [flash=]not[/flash] allow abuse directed against other players, or any of the staff.

Granted confusion can sometimes happen due to the nature of this media, but that is no reason for abuse or poor behaviour.

If such behaviour is encounted, I have a three strike rule.
1. Verbal Warning by PM.
2. Short duration ban of one week.
3. Full time ban.
