As the pair talk Elianna hears a faint rustling on the air and looks up fast enough to see a black shape blot out the night sky from one of the keep's high windows. She has just enough time to leap to attention before the furry winged creature crashes into her, piercing her shoulder with a pair of huge fangs (3dmg, you're at 7/10 hp). The thing flaps away into the darkness of the ceiling before she can even lift her blade, whatever it is its wings are nearly twice as long as she is tall.

(Initiative, attack, and damage rolls please. All attacks are made against AC 5, if you hit feel free to roleplay your attack. Please note only ranged weapons are viable unless you hope to be the one attacked. Everyone but Elianna and Gimak spend this round waking up, and only Elianna can react in time to attack.)

The sound of someone crashing to the ground wakes Raina from a deep sleep. She looks around in a daze at first. "Huh? What's going on?" she asks, clearly tired and not quite with it.

Eringard wakes up quickly. Realising they might be under attacks, she frees herself from her bedroll. Gripping her morning star, she hurries over to Maria. "Lie still, child" she admonishes while looking up to see what is threatening them.

1d20+2=20, 1d8=4, 1d20+2=3, 1d8=5

Drawing her bow Elianna lets off two arrows, the first flying straight and true, the second missing completely.

Hit AC 0 for 4 dmg.

"I am NO Zhent!" She shouts, her voice ringing clearly.
" Kid never learned to clear a room. Doors and corners, I told him. Doors and corners."

Gimak had been keeping an eye toward the entrance of the keep, and had lowered his guard a moment as he was distracted by Elliana's chatter. Thus, when the creature swooped in and attacked her, he was caught off-guard. "The Nine Hells?" he calls out, momentarily stunned by what just happened.

Jain leaps to his feet, dagger in hand faster than one can blink. Seraphina is slower to rouse though once she's stepped into the shadows it's impossible to tell her intentions. Meanwhile, Maria follows Eringard's instruction and stays hunkered down but she soon begins muttering to herself.

The giant furry creature swoops back at Elianna before anyone can do much of anything. Astonishingly the half-elf feathers her aggressor, turning its bite at the last moment. The monstrous bat, for that is what it must be, splits the air with an ear-destroying shriek!

(Need a save against paralyzation from Elianna, Eringard, Raina, and Jaded. OK, so all PC's XD. If you make the save you may do whatever you wish for the round, just remember intiative, attack, damage. If you fail the save you must spend the next round covering your ears and fleeing the scene, the pain of the shriek driving all thoughts from your mind.)

"Damn," Gimak curses, grabbing his crossbow. "Watch out, I've seen these things before. It's a damned--!" But he doesn't finish his sentence, as the creature gives off a horrible sonic screech. Gimak covers his ears with a shout and seeks cover to escape the awful cacophony.

==========

Gimak saves vs. paralyzation [14] (1d20): 7, fail.

For a split second, Eringard ducks and covers her ears, but she manages to pull herself together. Calling on Lathander's powers, she wills a sphere of light to come into being, centered on the attacking beast's head.

Save against paralyzation: 1d20=18, success.
Initiative: 1d10+4=11

1d20=15 Pass

1d20+2=6, 1d8=2, 1d20+2=17, 1d8=2
Miss and hit AC 1 for 2 damage.

"Somebody help the damn dwarf!" Elianna shouts over the noise of the creature, "Could do with some of that offensive magic Maria!" she adds.
" Kid never learned to clear a room. Doors and corners, I told him. Doors and corners."

Raina finally managed to grab her bow and get up. Though, the moment that the bat shrieked, she covered her ears with a wince. That thing needed to die!

Round 1 Resultes

(NPC saving throws in alphabetical order http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4250775/)

Jain, Gimak, and Raina are too overwhelmed by the creature's keening screech to do anything other than cover their ears and seek relief from the audible onslaught.

1) Elianna manages to send an arrow through the creature's large wings. It only makes a small hole as it passes through but the bat's pained wails speak to the shot's efficacy.
2) The Huge Bat swoops toward Elianna, but arrows and the party's general confusion keep it at bay.
3) Maria leaps to her feet, pointing at the bat. A firefly of light zips toward the creature, erupting in a boiling sphere of energy. The smell of burning hair fills the room to mingle with the still-smoking lavender.
4) Seraphina shoots her crossbow from the dark, just missing the flying foe.
5) Eringard calls to the Morning Lord for succor requesting His daily blessings to summon a sphere of light around the thing's head, but its own natural energies thwart the prayer.

The monstrous bat seems to be faltering, but continues its keening. (Everyone must make another saving throw as before or lose their turn. Characters previously effected can act this round if they pass.)

Actions for Round 2?

EDIT: Since Gimak spent this round moving away from the source of the noise he's outside of the screech's radius and does not need to make a saving throw.

EDIT2: Updated bat's status

Once Gimak is outside the range of the shriek, he withdraws his hands from his ears, noting a bit of blood on them both. Grimacing, he loads up his crossbow and fires at the creature, but the sudden appearance of Eringard's light disrupts his infravision, causing him to miss.

===============

Gimak fires his light crossbow at the creature (1d20): 7, miss.

Grimacing because of the continuing shrieks, but able to hold her own, Eringard follows the bat with her eyes, ready to strike at it if it attacks someone near. Her sling and stones were near her bedroll, out of reach for the moment. "That beast has a lot of magic to it" she thinks to herself, not bothering to call out because she wouldn't be heard anyway. At least the light would help the humans see their attacker better.

Raina removes her hands from her ears, takes up her bow, and starts backing up into the darkness as she fires an arrow up at the bat.
