WotL OOC Thread

This 2E Dragonlance game is set in the city of Haven, during the War of the Lance. Haven is a city undergoing great upheaval. First massive numbers of refugees pour in, then the city is conquered by a draconic army. Can our heroes survive under this dark occupation?

So, hey, the game has lasted a month now. How about that? Although only about two hours have passed in-game time.

How's everyone doing? Everyone having a good time? Pacing good?

Definitely enjoying this, though I'm aching to have Coco get into a brawl I think it just isn't in her to engage in senseless violence ^^

So far so good, the pacing feels a little slow, but I guess that's mostly cause I'm not used to forum RPGs, from what I hear, this one sounds good and quite reliable. I don't see how it could be sped up in any sane way.

Still enjoying myself, and things are starting to get rolling now that we're (mostly) together.

Well, I could have the barbarian go start a brawl in the tavern, although you all might wind up being arrested by the Holy Guard as a result.

But yeah, we've only had one fight so far, and it ended with a PC death. It seems like the party is heavily considering the mine quest, though, so once we depart for that, there should be some action then.

Actually, we can do a timeskip to the next day whenever you guys want. That way the barbarian has sobered up and Kendra is off work.

My only qualm with that is Coco still has to meet the sylvan redhead near sundown (and possibly get another plot hook or recruit an NPC!).

Well, when we're finished with the scene(s) we're doing now, we could skip to that evening for another scene(s) of everyone winding down, heading home for the night (and Coco making her contact) and then skip a second time to the following morning.

Got a new player joining us-- djhyland.

Couple more questions for you, djhyland--again, just for my own reference so I know how much I may need to explain to you.

1.) Do you have prior experience to 2nd Edition AD&D?
2.) Do you have prior experience to the setting of Dragonlance (specifically the Fourth Age)?

Some info to help you with your character.

Everyone is still at level 1 with 0 XP (we just started about a month ago). You start with max HP for your class. You can roll at Invisible Castle and then post the URL here for proof. (We do all of our rolls at that site; you aren't required to have a login there, though.) We use the 4d6, drop the worst die method.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Any questions, just ask.

Hello, all! I see you've been forewarned of my arrival. I look forward to meeting and gaming with all of you!

1) I have played 2nd Edition AD&D before; it's what I started out playing in 1992. I haven't played much of it since 3rd Edition came out, but that's not for a lack of desire.

2) As it so happens, Dragonlance is one of my first experiences with AD&D. I've read several of the novels, played in the setting, and have some of the books.

Darga's ability scores (pre-adjustment): Invisible Castle link

Given that I'd like Darga to be a gully dwarf and that the Tales of the Lance box set's rules for determining scores for gully dwarves is to use custom rolls (4d4 + 2 for strength and dexterity, 3d4 for constitution, etc.), what kind of ability score adjustments should I use? Should I use the custom rolling method?

How much starting money should I have to spend?

Darga is a wanderer, having left his tribe years ago to see the world. He does what he has to to survive, which usually means scavenging from others or taking odd jobs that nobody else wants. Despite his low lot in life, he's determined to find a better life for himself.

Darga

If you go here and scroll down a bit, you can find the rules I use for gully dwarves. (I don't use the Tales of the Lance supplement for much, because I find it pretty broken, to be honest.)
JadedDM wrote:Aghar receive a -2 to CHA and a +1 to STR and DEX. However, they have a hard cap on INT and cannot surpass a score of 12.
So as long as your INT isn't over 12, you can pretty much arrange them as you like.
djhyland wrote:How much starting money should I have to spend?
Depends on the class. If you want to be a thief, it's 2d6x10 steel pieces. You can use Invisible Castle to roll and post the result here.

Gully dwarves are rare but not unheard of in Haven at this time. Used to be, the Holy Guard kept them out of the city's walls. But recently, with the thousands of refugees flooding the city, more than a few have slipped through the cracks and the Holy Guard are spread too thin to worry about them. So as long as your character stays out of trouble, they should leave your character alone.

Any other questions, let me know.

Thanks, JadedDm! I've finalized Darga's character, at least until I think of something else I did wrong. I'll write up a backstory for him in the next day or so.
