Re: CH 2: Two Heads are Better
A curtain flame springs up surrounding the giant, blasting it from all sides with heat. It cries out in pain and surprise. However, it can't move without touching the flame.
Hollidan, Nuvain and Gimog prepare to move in at the sound.
==========
Surprise Roll (1d10): 8, fail. Giant is not surprised.
Echo casts Wall of Flame with the wand on the giant, dealing (2d4): 5 damage.

Re: CH 2: Two Heads are Better
"Get the pilgrims," Echo says to the others as she concentrates on the wall of fire.
Re: CH 2: Two Heads are Better
Echo maintains her concentration, keeping the curtain of flame up. The fire illuminates the entire cavern, allowing Hollidan to see just fine. He moves to the back of the cavern, avoiding the troll, to reach the pilgrims. "Oh, gods," he mutters.
The troll stays where it is, heat washing over it. It seems uncertain how to escape this fate.
Nuvain fires a stone, but it doesn't come close to hitting.
Finally, Gimog finishes his prayer, and the power of Gonto washes over the whole party.

Round 1!
Echo maintains her concentration. The wall of fire does (2d4): 3 damage to the troll.
Hollidan moves 60 feet toward the pilgrims to help them.
Two-headed Troll holds still, not sure what to do.
Nuvain slings a stone at the troll (1d20): 5, miss.
Gimog casts Bless on the party. Everyone receives a +1 to hit and against fear saves.

Re: CH 2: Two Heads are Better
"Hollidan, come on!" Echo calls out, but she maintains her concentration on the wall of fire.
Re: CH 2: Two Heads are Better
The ring of flame continues to burn as Echo concentrates, burning the troll further. It whimpers and moans. "Hot, hot!"
Hollidan quickly works to cut the binds on the pilgrims, but Echo notices from her vantage point on the other side of the chamber that only two of them actually get up.
Nuvain and Gimog sling stones at the troll, and this time both hit. But as they are not fire or acid attacks, the wounds start to heal almost instantly.

Re: CH 2: Two Heads are Better
Echo frowns as she takes note of what is going on, but she can't really do much other than concentrate on keeping this troll where it is.
Re: CH 2: Two Heads are Better
Hollidan ushers the two pilgrims who got up toward Echo. He turns and fire his crossbow as he passes, but it misses. Gimog and Nuvain both fire stones again, but likewise don't do any real damage.
"No! No take meats!" the troll cries upon seeing the pilgrims leaving. It attempts to walk through the ring of fire, but the flames prove too much. It catches fire, and drops to the ground, charred and still.

Nuvain fires his sling at the troll while blessed (+1) (1d20+1): 7, miss.

Re: CH 2: Two Heads are Better
Echo lets the Ring of fire drop once the troll falls. "What happened?" she asks Hollidan as she looks over the two pilgrims that he managed to save.
Re: CH 2: Two Heads are Better
The two pilgrims are both women. One is quite ancient, with long, wispy grey hair, green eyes and white skin. The other is an adolescent with short red hair, blue eyes and white skin. The girl is clearly upset, on the verge of tears. The old woman tries to console her.
Hollidan shakes his head. "He...didn't make it. Half of him was...the, uh...troll was eating..," he stammers, unable to say it outright.
"By Gonto, I knew him," Gimog says sadly. "He was a half-orc, but a good man with a noble soul. Damn, had only we arrived sooner."

Re: CH 2: Two Heads are Better
Echo doesn't show much of a reaction towards hearing what happened to the other prisoner despite how horrible it is. "Now is not the time to mourn his loss," she says. "We are still in danger here, and we have two more of those things to deal with."
Re: CH 2: Two Heads are Better
"Right," Hollidan says. "Let's search around for any more exits or anything that might be useful in this chamber before moving on."

Re: CH 2: Two Heads are Better
Echo looks around the cavern that holds the now charred troll, looking for other passage ways and such.
Re: CH 2: Two Heads are Better
Nuvain stays with the two pilgrims, speaking with them soothingly and softly. Gimog goes to examine the troll corpse, and Hollidan goes up to the dead pilgrim.
Echo searches around and finds another passage to the west. Looking down it, she sees no immediate danger.

Re: CH 2: Two Heads are Better
"There is another passage," Echo says as she walks back to Nuvain and the pilgrims. "I'll stay with them if you'll check out the passage," she says.
Re: CH 2: Two Heads are Better
Nuvain nods and heads off to scout. The two women remain silent, save for the younger one's wracked sobs.
"When the monster decided to eat one of us, it chose the girl," the old woman explains. "The half-orc volunteered to take her place. He is with Gonto now, I'm certain of it."
