An expedition with the "Seagull"

Desolate and abandoned, the evil alchemist’s mansion stands alone on the cliff, looking out towards the sea. Mysterious lights and ghostly hauntings have kept away the people of Saltmarsh, despite rumours of a fabulous forgotten treasure. What is its sinister secret?

Shearsea guides Coren through the tunnels and brings him to a place on the submerged rocks where he can easily stand, then takes off her jewelery from him.

Gunter had seen the chest falling down from Brax's hands and thought to dive down to retrieve it, but had misjudged the amount of air still in his lungs. Halfway down, he realises he cannot manage and tries to get up again. He's a little too late though, and he can't help breathing seawater before he surfaces, coughing, groping blindly for any rock to hold on.

"We have to get him, silly man, going for the chest!" Brax shouts, "We can get it later." She shoots Searos a look, "Shoot those cursed things!"

Vee sits on the rock when suddenly Gunters head comes spluttering and coughing out of the water. Hearing Brax shouting, the briliant idea of jumping into the whater to save him vomes up to her mind. And just as Vee always does what she thinks, she jumps and graps Gunter at the neck with the right hand. She uses the left hand to try not to get drunk herself by holding the rock...

Searos rolls his eyes as Vee jumps into the water, while running his fingers up the fletching of his arrow.

"You look like you're doing fine! Doing completely fine with no treasure!"

(ooc: are the sea-cats actually within range of my shortbow?)

The seacats are coming within range of Searos's bow this round, and they are approaching quickly now they see possible prey in the water. That prey is hurrying to get to safety, however. Thanks to Vee's dexterity, she manages to get hold of both Gunter and a rock and can pull him to a place where he can get a grip and cough all the water up in relative safety. Safety from drowning, that is.

"Fire your bow all right, Searos" Kim says encouragingly. "They're not within range of my spell yet"

Like Brax before, Gunter and Vee can decide to use the chain and climb up or move towards the shore in the shallow water of the rockway leading towards it.

Grabbing a nearby Rock, Brax throws it at the nearest Seacat, trying to distract it and turn its attention to her. "Shoot it Searos! Gunter, Vee move!"

Init: 1d10=4
Hit with a Rock: 1d20=20 Critical Hit!!!
Damage: (Like a sling stone?) 1d4+1=3 x2 = 6dmg

Searos looks at the seacats coming on strong and sites down the arrow. He lets loose an arrow. While he goes to nocking a second one he calls out "If I kill one of these things, you'd better jump back in and get it for gods' sake! It'd be nice to come out of this with SOME treasure!" He lets loose the second arrow while still upset at the lack of general wealth to be had.

Gunter comes up from the water and in between coughing and choking, thanks Vee. Seeing his companions firing at the oncoming Sea Cats, he grabs the chain and attempts to haul himself out of the water.

I will not use initiative, but assume that you all know the range of your missiles before you let them loose...

Searos is the first to shoot, his arrow hits the incoming sea cat in the shoulder, doing 6 hp of damage, but this does not deter it. A short time later, Kim then directs a magic missile to the second sea cat for 1d4+1=4 damage. Brax hurls a rock towards the first sea cat once it comes into range, which hits it right between its eyes, causing 12 damage. The sea cat sinks below the waves, which causes Searos's second arrow to miss. The other sea cat now stops swimming towards the rock, but tries to support its partner, dragging it away towards the shore of the inlet, towards the left from the party's point of view.

Having helped Coren gain dry land, Shearsea comes to the rock, calling out to the fighting group: "If possible, let the sea cats live. They are creatures of the sea. I can promise you treasure from my father, he will give to you generously for saving me"

Gunter manages to climb the rock with the help of the chain. It is now quite crowded up there, with Brax, Searos, Kim and Gunter.

After climbing out of the water Gunter looks to see if Vee needs any help getting out as well. Bending over to catch his breath, he shoots an icy glare at Searos and Brax.

"And THAT will be the last time I go swimming into any underwater caverns on a search for treasure. Is everyone else okay?"

"Indeed, that didn't go to plan did it?" Brax responds softly, arching her back while draining water from her silver hair.

"Well that scared them off for now, we should get that chest, and then return you home." she had gone to aid Vee but the Ranger had got there first.

"suggestions?" she asks.

(have the cats moved away enough to get the chest?)
