In general Paladins = Headaches for DM and Player alike.

I'd allow one, but only for an experienced player and not in either of the games I have been running - they are not appropriate for the setting.

My hubby has the closest, to a Paladin we have around here in two of Jadeds games, "Sturm" and "Jerrard"... Generally they are too restrictive.
