A fresh start

Vee takes the offered drink from Brax. "yes I've sleept well." she answers Amon. "and yes, I've enjoyed the bed." she says grinning to brax. "the last time I've slept in bed must be a couple of months ago!"

After the Geraldine enters the room and drowns her in a sea of words, Vee looks up from her breakfast. "yes I'm Veeleyana... Ah, call me Vee." she stops for a moment, taking the armor.She studys it, stroks the Tree. "I'ts beautiful! Sure we can exchange. But at least after my breakfast." Vee gives the cuirass back to Geraldine. "And please," she smiles "talk a bit slower please."

"Of course I do." Brax grins looking Echo up and down. She sits quietly sipping her wine.

"I am glad." Brax smiles at Vee, eating virtually nothing.

"Rough night?" he asks Searos, noting his look.

"I...cannot fathom not sleeping in a bed for several months," Amon admits to Vee.

"Good morning, Lieutenant Petersson. Fair well today?"

"GFM to you, too, pal." Martin grumbles at Searos. "You might want to consider a spoonful of this," he says, presenting the same jar he had just offered to Brax as a hair-care product, with a juggler's flair bobbing it up and down in a complex and hopefully kinetosis-inducing pattern, "the best hangover remedy since boiled dog eyes and fish intestines."

Brax grins at both Searos and "Drake", sitting bolt upright in her chair, after a few moments she stands, walking to the bar.

Searos takes a sniff of the spoon and his face instantly curdles. Then at the mention of dog eyes and intestines he looks like he's going to be sick again. He pushes Martin/Drake's hand away. "Thanks Patches, but I think I'll just stick to my usual hangover cure, ya feel me?"

Searos looks over to Amon. "Just had a little too much to drink." He jingles his coin pouch. "But an otherwise fine night all around."

"Temperance is a virtue, Master Searos," Amon states. "I was quite relieved to have survived that ordeal myself, and understand the need to celebrate. But one can celebrate a little too much."

Searos snorts a bit. "Temperence is boring... don't go start sounding like those priests who talk nothing about sacrificing the pleasures of the body and blah blah blah. Gotta learn to have a little bit of fun, your lordship."

"Amon, you are sounding a little more...pompous than normal," Echo comments absently. "You keep forgetting that not everyone is like you."

"A little bit of fun, sure. I think you overdid it last night, though, Master Searos," Amon says. To Echo, he replies, "Pompous? I'm not pompous. I'm an adventurer now, Echo. I stared death in the face yesterday. It was a life-changing experience."

Echo turns her head to actually look at Amon, blinks, and then starts laughing hysterically. "You didn't even come close to dying yesterday," Echo says as she tries to catch her breath, but every now and again she starts giggling like some little school girl. "If anything, I am more of an adventurer than you what with having a knife to my throat not once, but twice."

Amon shakes his head, holding his hands up. "You misunderstand. I didn't say I almost died. I said I faced death. There's a difference." Crossing his arms, he nods to himself sagely. "I'm not the same person I was yesterday. I can't go back to a regular, button-down life, now that I'm an adventurer. It's a terrible burden, but one I will have to learn to live with, like all great heroes do, I'm sure."

"You're the exact same person you were yesterday," Echo says, clearly highly amused by all of this. "I'm sad to say that this group of people managed to rub off on you. You're heading down the moronic path that these 'wonderful' people around us have taken," she says seriously then lets out a sigh. "I guess it is going to be up to me to save you from yourself, yet again."

Geraldine flashes a bright smile at Amon calling her lieutenant. That wasn't her title - the town militia was a little to small to need ranks and titles - but she appreciated the recognition her work got from the commander's son. "Good morning to you as well" she says before turning back to Vee. "If I can call you Vee, then you should call me Gerry. Of course we can wait till after breakfast. And I will try to talk more slowly. You will have to remind me from time to time." Without further ado, Geraldine pulls up a chair and sits at Brax's and Vee's table, watching the people around.

Kim had followed the exchange between Amon and Echo, occasionally raising an eyebrow. "Amon, you said you had found a scrap of paper in one of the books, may I see it?" Kim turns to the other mage when they are done.

Amon frowns. This wasn't going at all like he planned. Nobody seemed to be taking him any more seriously than before. Perhaps it was in his delivery? He promised himself he would practice more in the mirror when he got the chance.

Kim's request snaps him out of his reverie. "Hmm? Oh, yes. Of course." He slips the tactics book back into his pack, and digs around for the other book--the almanac. Finding it, he pulls it out, flips through it, and finds the loose pages. He places them on the table for Kim to see.
