CH 4: Lair of the Dragon

Sturm takes the blade, the Dwarven sword fitting strangely in his hand.
"She mean't the fleeing Creature." Sturm responds, watching it leave. "Go, I will cover you."

[JadedDM]

The baaz statue holding Sturm's sword suddenly and inexplicably crumbles to dust, freeing the sword. The baaz who ran for backup manages to open the doors in the back and runs off. Another baaz takes the place of the dusted one and swings at Laurana, who just barely manages to protect herself with her shield.

Riverwind takes aim with his bow, firing over another draconian to hit the leader in the chest (but misses the heart by inches). The leader gasps and yanks the arrow out before throwing it to the ground in anger.

Laurana counterattacks, but the draconian is able to parry the thrust.

"I said withdraw! They're getting backup, we need to get out of here!" Tanis repeats in frustration.

Baaz 05 crumbles to dust, releasing Sturm's sword.
Baaz 04 opens the doors and leaves to get backup. He is no longer visible.
Baaz 03 takes Baaz 05's place and attacks Laurana (1d20): 17, miss.
Riverwind fires his short bow at Baaz 01 (9 +1 projectiles +4 species enemy = 14, hit) for 3 damage.
Baaz 01 cannot attack as he is bottle-necked.
Laurana attacks Baaz 03 with her short sword (9 +1 swords +1 specialization = 11, miss).

(OOC: Don't forget your modifiers, guys! They can mean the difference between a miss and a hit.

"You heard him, retreat."

Laurana thrusts twice at the creature in front of her, her plan to kill it, forming a barrier to aid their escape.

1st attack: Hit AC 5, 5 damage
2nd attack: Hit AC-3, critical, 2x7 damage = 14

Sturm takes up his fathers sword, passing Riverwind his blade, "Retreat." He gives a clear cry, pulling back towards the door, it was against his better judgement, but who knew how many there were in there.

Just to slow it down, Riverwind attempts to put an arrow into Baaz 1, and backs to the other door.

"Anyone got a plan?"

to hit, dmg baaz1 (1d20+5=9, 1d8=5)

Goldmoon remains where she is, watching all doors of the hallway in turn.

"We Retreat" Sturm says simply

Despite all of this talk of retreat, nobody actually made any progress in that regard. Laurana stabs at her opponent, who parries the attack with his own sword. Sturm picks up his fallen blade, glad to have the family heirloom back in his hands.

The Baaz slashes downward at Laurana, who blocks it with her shield. This leaves a wide opening in the draconian's defenses, allowing the elf maiden to counterattack by slipping her blade into its heart. With lightening reflexes, she pulls the sword back out just a split-second before the creature turns to solid stone.

Riverwind fires an arrow at the leader, the last one still standing, but it just bounces off the creature's shield and clatters to the floor.

Riverwind fires his bow at Baaz 01 (9, miss).
Laurana thrusts with her short sword at Baaz 03 (22, critical hit!) for 14 damage. Baaz 03 petrifies. Laurana makes a DEX-3 check (1d20): 3, pass. Her sword is not trapped.

"Back." Sturm shouts to the group, withdrawing slowly to the door, Brightblade drawn.

[Nuke]

Seeing the effect his arrow had on the dragonkin, Riverwind turns and runs to the door.

"Outside Goldmoon, we'll have to deal with them out there."

[Jenara]

"Tanis." She backs away, sword still drawn, following Sturm.

[Breila]

Goldmoon follows Riverwind when he goes outside. "What difference does it make if we fight them indoors or outdoors?" she asks him.

[Nuke]

"We could get out flanked in here, at least by the main doors we have room to be all together."

[Breila]

Goldmoon nods and finds herself a place in the second line as they prepare for battle, getting her sling ready.

[Nuke]

As he exits the building, Riverwind examines the doors, particularly the handles, with a thought to lock them shut from the outside.
