Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh (This is the Game Thread)

Desolate and abandoned, the evil alchemist’s mansion stands alone on the cliff, looking out towards the sea. Mysterious lights and ghostly hauntings have kept away the people of Saltmarsh, despite rumours of a fabulous forgotten treasure. What is its sinister secret?

Echo concentrates upon the window for a few moments before she shakes her head. "I can't tell. It is extremely difficult to just look at something, and sense what type of magic it is," she states.

"If I used this place as a smuggler hideout, I'd use this window as a lookout" Kim's voice comes from behind. "So perhaps this window is enchanted to look empty when people look at it from the village. Perhaps it can even give secret signals to someone who have the right magic item with them."

Gunter snaps his fingers at Kim.

"Now THAT'S good thinking...then they keep up the image this place is haunted to make sure curious people like ourselves stay away. If it is smugglers though, they must be good to work so undetected."

Kim shrugs. "Oh, it's not sure that they are completely undetected. If the common folk get their share, they will probably not object to smuggling. So it would be sufficient not to be detected by the authorities... and those who are likely to grass."

Brax nods in agreement, licking her lips, "Again i see things that make me think i was wrong." she turns away looking along the corridor. "But where are they?"

Searos grins as he looks out the window and hears all the talk behind him. "All that is the sort of thing I would do, but seriously, do you actually think they are paying kickbacks to anyone in town? If Chills and his majesty had no idea, what do you think the odds are anybody else would know about it? Besides, small town like this? You can easily intimidate a few people or have someone "disappear" because they got too curious about the "haunted house," ya feel me?"

He turns back to the window still smiling at the ingenuity of it all.

"Least ways thats what I would do. Wonder what their smuggling though... must be valuable to be worth all this trouble."

"You have quite a high opinion of the notables of this town" Kim says in an amused tone. "In my experience, there's generally a lot going on they don't know - or at least they don't want their young ones to know about." The last is said with a glance to Amon and Echo

"And you have a pretty low opinion of the important people in this town," Echo says. "It is doubtful that anyone in this town knows about smuggling. That isn't to say they aren't curious or suspicious of this place though. They might suspect that something is going on, but it isn't until now that we had people foolish enough to risk their lives to come check it out."

Searos shrugs and continues looking out over the area from the window.

"I just find that small town folk always think that crime and smuggling and the like are the problems of 'city folk.' They can't possibly happen here! But the more uptight and wholesome they are, the more they have their heads up their collective backends about the fact that crime is like the air we breathe. Its everywhere. Its part of human nature."

Searos turns around and rests against the window sill, his arms crossed and a smile on his face.

"See, this is why I say I'm no thief. Think of me as merely... a observer of human nature. I'm like the alchemist of social interactions. I keep trying things to see if they work. Perhaps I get richer. But the only reason I get richer is because I've been watching, ya feel me?"

For a moment, it looked like Kim would give an angry retort to Echo, but the mage relaxes after Searos's words and says nothing.

Instead, Kim turns back towards the part of the gallery that collapsed before and examines it. Does the whole construction look unsafe or was it just a particularly rotten beam that had given way?

Brax does not get involved in the discussion, in a Drow settlement, everyone sold each other, her own escape was sold out, barely escaping with her life...

Bringing herself back into the present she stands next Kim. "What do you know of such structures?" she asks the mage.

(Given a full look, say am hour she'd know for sure, but she is sure the damage is done.. for now.. )

Outside the Searos catches sight of wagon train using the path.

Kim shrugs and answers Brax: "Not too much, really. Before becoming a mage, one of my tasks was to oversee construction and renovation of buildings on my brother's estate. So I know the basics, but I'm no expert, really. But it looks as if a lightweight and dexterous person could jump the gap without danger."

"Searos is right though, crime is human and anywhere there are people, there are others that will prey on them. The question now is what do we do about it? We have no proof to take to anybody at this point. Maybe if our cover isnt blown we can just wait here until they come back?

"Well then, we at least qualify for that, you seem quite Dextrous for a-" she pauses, unsure what to say. "They are going to discuss what to do for some time to come. There is a spirit in here, I know it, I can sense it."

Brax looks to the corridor, "I am taking a look.. what do you think?" She winks.

Kim leans to the corridor wall, arms folded, and crosses the feet at the ankles, too. "Do as you please."
