The Brink [of Madness] Act 1, Scene 1

A classic 2e Puzzle dungeon for High Level characters
Beware, this one is substantially longer and (IMHO) even harder than the legendary Tomb of Horrors!

If we plan to stay here, we should let those one the surface know in some way. Otherwise they may become concerned without word from us. Landro says

"We should have cast the Telepathic bond on one in the camp as well. I think it would be best for us to get to the camp this time to better prepare..." his eyes shines and he grins with these two words, then continue, "and later we may camp in dungeon after we settle some rules with camp to make sure all is understood. For example, is we can achieve messengers, using spells to notify them about our state, or whatever." He stops, think a bit and then says, "If we discuss preparation, and better safe than sorry attitude, we do posses strong powers that may help scouting the dungeon before going forward. We can try to go to other planes. One way, which is a bit sporadic, can be peeking through other planes into windows in our plane. A more robust way of scouting would be walking here, but through the ethereal plane. Although with the multi-dimensionality of the sigils, I'm not how will it work."
He gives all a moment to think of it.
"Bottom line is that if we take few days at camp we can for one try to scout the dungeon farther ahead for traps, monsters and secret paths, with, different and hopefully lesser risk to our lives. Second, we can have some boosting spells on us. Third, I may recruit some help. Fourth, " he lingers in thought, coughs, then reluctantly starts as if having second thoughts, "Ahhm.. as I said, Fourth... I've thought of something that may help us and yet may not... With my experiments over the years with the dead I've met a lot of types of diseases. I have the ability to create a source of different diseases and force them spread into the dungeon. If that works well, it may weaken our enemies significantly. Of course not of all our enemies, but unless the dungeon contains only undead or outplanar creatures, which is even better for all I care, many may suffer greatly from this. The only downside is that, well, takes time if we don't want to risk ourselves with having the disease, and again with the multi-dimensionality of the sigils, I'm not sure how will it behave." of course Ke'Sha doesn't care much if there are any innocent people in the dungeon by any chance, "All these options and we get into the dungeon fully prepared after another night of rest."

"I do not think we should start a contagion, on the chance it may help us. Is the came expecting to hear from us?"
=================
"I don't like most folk, on account they don't like me. But I am not on board for starting a new plague. If they are expecting to hear form us, we should see about contacting them, or going back. Otherwise I am fine with sleeping here."

If we intend to remain below there are a few ways we could get a message above. Binky or Gur could travel invisibly back to the surface to relay some details. Or if Axid is able to mentally contact someone at the surface, perhaps the Paladin in charge... Lena I think her name was, he could convey our situation. Allikhain proposes

Landro nods, I agree, setting a contagion loose would have unforseen consequences. Infecting others won't save Sorril, and migh spread to us as we continue deeper. It seems reckless. Hearing Allikhain's proposal he agrees, I could test out one of these troll-rings as well, report and rerurn. He offers

“Let us return to the surface then and figure out our next moves. I tend to think we are going to need a regroup before we go further” Axid remarks.

Allikhain and Landro are likewise indifferent, so with no votes against returning, the party makes their way back up the ladder to the room with the Giant Snake Head. Landro peeks inside and shakes his head, Nothing new there. The group then proceeds to climb the 300 ft long chain, crosses the long suspension bridge and back into the massive stalactite. From there they ascend the circular stairwell, avoiding the magical trap on the stairs, and back through the winding natural cavern. During this time the Mental bond, Ke'Sha's Cloak of Bravery and Jacks Fly spell expire.

The party re-emerges from the cave near camp, and posted guards quickly move off to inform Lena. Members of camp gather around them curiously as the bustle of their return rapidly spreads through camp. Lena has them brought to a storage tent where they can discuss things privately without everyone in camp interrupting with questions. A blonde human man [Steve] is also present, and seems to have just finished speaking with her as the rest of the Party arrives.

Ah, you've returned. How fares the expedition so far?

"Um Interesting would be my best description." Unless someone else chimes in he will tell the story of the Trolls/Puddings, then about the mark and how it affected only the one wall so far.

Dwarves being known for their exuberance and spritely demeanor, looks at Steve the Human and cocks an eyebrow. “What business might ye have with us? I hope ye might be a peddler of soap or lotions we might slather on the halfling to remove the stench. Perhaps you’ve come to take a drink order? In that case your best dwarven ale!”
