The Brink [of Madness] Act 1, Scene 1

A classic 2e Puzzle dungeon for High Level characters
Beware, this one is substantially longer and (IMHO) even harder than the legendary Tomb of Horrors!

Axid ignores the veiled jab from the evil Halfling. Having produced results with his inspection he tries the same method as before with his new discovery in hopes that he can get the other hand to move. He puts the blunt end of the torch on the find and pushes it on the button.

Axid repeats his process on the second button with similar results. The Left arm moves, revealing another alcove. Rather than a lever, this one has a symbol about the size of his palm in glowing green on the back wall...

Axid uses the mental link to let the others know he has found a sigil. He then proceeds to make his way over to the now exposed sigil and touch it.

"So... progress..." he looks meaningfully at Allakhain. Ke'Sha joins the others to investigate the found sigil.

Allikhain nods, Progress indeed.

Axid moves carefully along the arm of the statue to the newly revealed alcove. Reaching out he touches the sigil and the glow slips into his fingertips, searing his flesh painfully! The excruciating heat flows along the back of his hand and around his forearm, finally settling just below the wrist. The sickly green glow and the heat intensify, branding his arm with the symbol before the light fades; leaving the dull black mark upon him. After a moment the sigil on the wall begins to glow again...

Axid grimaces with the pain as it moves through him. He notices the mark upon his skin and reflects on the design. He slowly makes his way back to the head of the statue and goes over to where the lever is. He mentally remarks to the others “come on down and get you some ink on your skin. It tingles a little bit”.

As Axid describes what happened, Ke'Sha says, "It seems to match what we see on the body we collected in the pit behind the whirling gate. It brings up two questions. The first is why did that person we found returned back after being here? Maybe we missed something? Or the sigil exposed something? The second question, is if that sigil is the reason to his death? Although the more probable reason is that he just starved to death after locking himself in that pit. Axid, besides the pain of the burn, do you feel something different? Do you feel mentally different? Do you SEE or FEEL something MORE with the sigil branded on you?"
He waits for the others to comment and specifically for Axid impressions, but suggests, "If you want to wait until tomorrow before branding ourselves, I can talk with him first thing on the morning."

(OOC: I don't remember if the paladin at the camp told us anything about sigil tattoos, but it would be reasonable that other groups that tried to help Sorril reported about this event. Do we know anything about it?)

[Ooc] you are the first group from the camp. Nobody there knows anything about the caverns that wasn't in the intro post. The person from the pit appeared to have starved to death. [/ooc]

Acid states through the mental link - "I'm still everyone's f'in ray of sunshine. Nothing has changed other than I have this mark on me now. Next up is the problem of the lever." Acid makes his way to the lever and moves the lever to its opposite position.

"Oh well. That seems like a nice trick. Something closed the door up here."

"Probably that lever he just hit."
