The Heart of Darkness... [Main Game Thread]

The (Original!) Tomb of Horrors!!!
S1 by the great Gygax 1978. Everything adapted to 2e. This is NOT the Return to ToH written for 2e

Labyrinth of Madness!!! Previously Concluded (by TPK)
S6 by Monte Cook from 1995. Designed for 2e. IMHO this one is the tougher of the two, but not by much.

Disappointed, Galan returns to the rest saying, "Well, I couldn't understand the inscription... Toss the sand and be ready for the worst." while doing so he flings carefully the mandolin to his hands playing a tune that starts slow but takes pace. "Well, in we go friends, keep your spirits high."

After Galan is back and everyone is behind Zafron and Tabbi, he throws the bag.

Galan moves back to the entrance and begins his song, the music flowing through the group and bolstering their spirits.

Zafron hefts the heavy sandbag and swings it as he prepares to throw; one end of a rope tied to it to control the distance. With a mighty turn he hurls the weight hard enough to send it to the wall, but uses the rope to stop it just above the slanted plate. Suddenly a tremendous rumbling sound builds from the area of the wall where the sliding stone was identified. With an incredible rush, the utterly massive slab of granite grinds across the hall and slams into the far side with a prodigious crashing sound; scattering dust and grit everywhere in a cloud of dust.

When the dust clears, the stone fills the hall so tightly and completely there is practically no discernible seam. It is all of one piece. In the corner of the hall the end of Zafron's rope is pinned utterly flat against the side of the wall where the stone slab meets it.

===

So the bag and about 25 ft of rope are gone now, as it will have to be cut free from where it is pinned flat against the wall. Whose rope was it again? ^_^

Galan stop playing and says, "Well, the hinges needed cleansing but besides that all is well... Let's check again the wall behind the moving part, it seems weird it covered 'nothing'."

"Based on my original assessment on this wall it would seem we should be able to reset this wall is it seems to have slide across before.

Looking in from outside, Bryce notes the tunnel is now completely blocked and dryly comments "We have confirmation on the trigger for the wall trap it seems."

How would the party like to attempt to bypass the massive stone now blocking the hall?
And/or where would they like to search for a way to reset the trap?

(OOC: Can dig/transform to umber hulk can work to break the stone? Also can I cast Shrink (the opposite of enlarge) and remove the stone? I also have teleport, telekinesis and disintegrate but it might seem a waste of power if shrink works)

Again, neither the Dig spell nor being polymorphed into an umber hulk will allow you to dig through solid Stone. They will allow you to dig through dirt, mud, sand, clay, etc

Galan could attempt to shrink the stone (unless it has some kind of magical protection)

Teleportation could work, consider the area beyond casual observation

Telekenesis can only move 25 lb per Caster level. This stone is many dozens of times larger than that

Disintegrate would probably work, and could destroy a 10x10x10ft cube of the stone

(OOC: Can a little bit of everything function to detect if the stone is magical? It does work as some sort of identify...
If so, [1d100] = 45, pass.)

"little bit of everything" doesn't detect Magic. Sometimes allows someone to recognize physical attributes of well-known magical items. It cannot recognize ordinary items that have magic on them

Faldair has detect magic memorized..

"So... good thing we weren't in this rock path, heh?" Galan says to the group. "Let's try to put it out of the way." he then plays few tones with his Mandoline and casts 'Shrink' on the stone.

==============================================================
(OOC: So if the sliding wall was holding the boulder in place, and once moved the boulder rolled to the main corridor, it means that there is a path that the boulder came from? Or at least a niche the size of the boulder?)

"I don`t think we should be wasting a spell here at this time. It seems to me this trap is intended to trap someone inside. It's possible that their is another sliding wall on the inside to keep us trapped inside. I think we should look to see if we can reset the sliding door from here unless we need to reset the floor on the other side of the door."

"We can still go to the other entrance and try the door that has a strange arch." "Since this place is super booby-trapped maybe their is another entrance that we have no found or maybe their is a secret door in this hallway or the other entrance that we have not found."

"I say we try to reset the trap from the our side. If that doesn't work, I say we head back and look for another entrance. I that doesn't work we should go back and try the other hallway door or try to look for a secret door." "It would seem based on prior investigation of the other hallway that the ceiling is intended to fall on us. Seems that it can be fatal."

OCC" waiting for everyone input on our next move.

[OOC] So, I realized that Galan has Enlarge memorized, but not Reduce, which is the inverse version of that spell. When memorizing a spell that is reversible, you choose which version you are memorizing. So unfortunately Galan cannot cast it until he has a chance to rest and memorize the other version.[/OOC]
