The Heart of Darkness... [Main Game Thread]

The (Original!) Tomb of Horrors!!!
S1 by the great Gygax 1978. Everything adapted to 2e. This is NOT the Return to ToH written for 2e

Labyrinth of Madness!!! Previously Concluded (by TPK)
S6 by Monte Cook from 1995. Designed for 2e. IMHO this one is the tougher of the two, but not by much.

"Something is not quite right with this door. I'm not detecting any trap but something is off." pausing for a second.
"Let's back out of here and burn the cob webs." Tabbi heads back out.

OCC: DM how tall are the doors? Do they have a door frame around them?

Going by the image, the doors seem to be about 12 feet high and built straight into the wall, without an obvious frame aside from the large lintel over the top

Tabbi informs the others of her findings and leave the passage to join the others outside.

"OK... So we will leave testing the demon statue for the next time we are here. Everyone, go back out." Galan walks in the rare and after everyone is out he lits an arrow and shoot it from the entrance to the web above the middle of the corridor.

Galan ushers everyone out and prepares to shoot a fire arrow. He quickly realizes he doesn't have any prepared fire arrows. Between the group they eventually come up with some cloth and lamp oil to craft a makeshift fire arrow. The balance of the arrow isn't the best, but the skilled elf manages to put it approximately where he is aiming.

The arrow burns a hole through the webs about 2 ft wide and ricochets off the ceiling with the sound of arrow-on-stone. It clatters to the ground, burning a second hole in the webs nearer the door.

Several moments pass and nothing in the hall reacts to the noise and burning of web.

Disappointed with the results Galan looks at the ceiling through the holls. Then he says, "Wait here, prepare for spiders attack." he lits a torch, goes to the other side of the corridor, floats up and once the torch touches the web he flies all the way to the other side burning quickly the web and returning to the ground at the entrance.

Galan crawls back in and lights a torch. A pair of tiny wings spout from his boots and he begins to fly! Raising the torch overhead he burns a row down the middle, and many of the webs fall away. When the elf looks at the ceiling, he notes it is comprised of large, poorly fitting stones.

Bryce peers into the hallway from outside to see what effect the elf has had on the webbing. IF he can see the stonework that makes up the ceiling, he offers "I don't trust that, not with Tabbi's assessment of the door. Shall we see what is in hole number two?"

Bryce pokes his head in, and knows for certain [Dwarven stoneworking] that the ceiling is indeed poorly fitted and that prodding of any real effort could bring sections of it down if not cause a cascading effect that collapses the whole corridor...

"After you." Galan gestures outside and looks up a bit concerned. After everyone clears back to the outdoors Galan follows the company to the eastern entrance. "Let's do the same here. Bryce and Tabby, please scan the hall up to the door."

"So we aren't going in today?" Van will mock the scouts while sitting having a drink.

Feel free to lead the way brother of mine. Bryce deadpans while giving Sorril a wink.

Assuming they are at the other entrance, Bryce pokes around and carefully moves into the tunnel/hall probing the floor and walls ahead of him before continuing onward. He is trying to find any traps before accidentally triggering them

Bryce begins poking and prodding his way along the floor and walls. About 20 feet down he becomes aware of a fine seam, almost too fine even for a dwarf to notice. The seam forms a large square, extending from the floor to the 10 ft high ceiling along the wall.

"Bryce, what do you think is going on? Do you need some help with the stonework from your brothers?"
