Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
======
As things stand, crossing requires a hard Athletics skill check.
Darren will provide Guidance (so add 1d4).
Failure by 5 or less requires an average Acrobatics skill check to regain balance as the rope starts to wobble.
Failure by more than 5 is rather unfortunate.
Regaining one"s balance allows an easier Athletics skill check to complete the crossing.

"Hold on a moment." Sue looks at the amount of slack rope that is under the disk.
IF it is more than 10 ft.
He will cut it off, tie part of it around Jim's waste. Then loop it over the rope going to the ladder, and tie it back off to the rope around his waist.
"There, now you shouldn't fall into the sludge if you lose your grip. Maybe your hand can bring it back for us." Looking to Jim then Woody.

Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
There is more than 10 foot of rope dangling at the end of the Disk.
======
Sue gains +100xp
The safety line will grant advantage on the Acrobatics skill check.

Athletics check for when it`s Woody`s turn : [1d20] = 17 + [1d4] = 2 = 19 assuming Darren cast guidance for Woody.
Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
Sue will go second. Is the hand able to bring back that much rope? Or slide it along the bridged rope at least?
Athletics(STR)(7):[1d20+7] = 9+7 = 16
Guidance: [1d4] = 3

Woody will use the mage hand to bring back the small rope that we are using to put around our waists.

Athletics(0): [1d20] = 10 and the Guidance: [1d4] = 1 for a total of 11
If acrobatics check is needed here is Acrobatics(8): [1d20+8] = 9+8 = 17 and rope advantage Acrobatics(8): [1d20+8] = 17+8 = 25
and if the safety line tied to Jim's waist worked and he is not in the sewage, here is another Athletics(0): [1d20] = 18 to continue on

Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
With only Jim making an uncharacteristic song and dance over it, the group cross the wider sewer channel, now standing on the northern walkway of the southeastern tunnel. Key: 5' squares; Grey = lower level walkways; Tan = upper level walkways; Black = solid wall; Blue = sewer liquids (flow is from NW & NE); Two linked dots = iron rung ladder; Dotted lines = where liquids cascade to lower level (flow is to SE & SW)
Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
Sue will gather his now 2 ropes, and give Jim his hook back. (30 & 20 for lengths?)
Wanna loosen the grip on that?" He points to the disk. When it moves or is gone he will pull in the rope.
Assuming it goes through muck as Sue pulls it.
"Can you use a hand to hold it out of the muck?"
Or
"Can your hand clean this off too?" He will get Woody to run the mage hand along the rope pulling the muck off.
Then with a glance at the sewage he will start to climb the ladder. 3/4 of the way up he will stop to listen.

Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
Mage Hand can be used to avoid dipping the rope in the unpleasant mess.
Darren offers to Mend the rope (into the one original piece).
***
From the ladder Sue can hear the trickle of running water, and less pleasant "Splish!" and "Thwop!" sounds

He will take Darren up on mending it.
He will also climb to the top.

Woody will use the mage hand to carry the rope. He will follow Sue up the ladder.
Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
The group move up the ladder and see that the channel is similar to the one though which they entered, albeit elevated by some twelve or maybe fifteen feet.
About twenty foot into the tunnel a rather solid looking grill bars (sic) further progress to the northeast. It has no obvious door or opening or locking mechanism.
There is some kind of pole on the northeastern ledge, perhaps forty feet beyond the sturdy grill.
A single U-shaped rung can be seen in the middle of the ceiling of the northeastern tunnel above where it spills out into the junction chamber.

The U-shaped rung is roughly in the middle of the dotted line across where the NE tunnel meets the junction chamber.

Re: Chapter 2 - Getting to the bottom of it?
Is there any evidence that the gate can move?
Is there a hook or any other feature to the pole?
Maybe they can try and hook the rung and pull if they think it will move the gate.
===============//===========================
"I wonder if we can lift this gate up?" Can Sue's Glaive reach the top bar? If so he will try to push up on it. IF he thinks the gate will move, and can't move it, it will see if they can get a couple people on the polearm to push up.
