Im thinking if we do use the disintegrate, we should use the NPCs so you don't have to decide if she would use it in combat.
This seems like a less pressured decision.

I presume Stephen is going to the center of the large room with the dragon and not the center of the newly opened room

No, Stephen already made the rounds of the 'Dragon' room, and detected no traps (unless you or I missed something). So now he wants to check the new room for traps. And his Talisman of Zagy warms up within 20 feet of a trap.

The dragon room is only 30 x 40. Walking along the outer walls covers the center as well.

You're right. Assuming he stays a foot away from the outer walls, and the talisman is suspended 4 1/2 feet off the ground, he detects any traps up to 18'-9" in the center of the dragon room.
