Strangely Pytor finds solace in her words and actions until the mention of Barsali... "But Grandmother, it was my hands that ended his life. We swore a blood-oath to watch over each other. If he is not able to pass on, it is my duty to find a way to set his soul at peace. Though, I will heed your advice and find an ally experienced in such matters, if one exists. You said my sister has some experience with the oddities of this land?"

The moon takes one back to their primal self... tell me, did you and Bartoli compete? Did you test yourselves against each other as young men often do? she asks, not really expecting an answer. The silver lady draws out the baser self and shoves the conscious mind aside... that is why so often you would not remember. You competed with him and so when he tried to stop you, the fight was inevitable.

The old woman sighs sadly, Yes, the only way to lay him to rest is to face him again, but only when you are ready. He will not stop. Adrastia has experience with many dangerous things in this land, but this is not among them. The creature which hunts you is quite a rare thing. Even I cannot advise you on how best to deal with it. But I know you will find a way.

Though we've a little ways to go yet, you should have something. Marta produces a bracelet woven of the finest black hair from a horse's mane. When you find your sister, she may not recognize you; you were so young when separated. Show her this, and tell her I have sent you. The old gypsy presses the object into his hand.

"A rare thing you say, but not unheard of? If that is the case, then someone has faced them. I merely have to find someone with the knowledge which I need, before Barsali finds me... Somehow I feel that may be a task in and of itself." Pytor takes the bracelet and slips it onto his wrist. "I do not understand Grandmother. Are you not accompanying me to meet Adrastia?"

OOC: Sorry for the absence. Some RL issues came up.

[no worries, I got derailed myself irl. sometimes it just feels like life wants to see how much it takes to break you]

The old woman nods, but does not seem too hopeful he will find someone to consult on the matter. In cases like these often a Telling is needed, but I have read the stars and asked the cards and no answer has come to me yet. As for the other... She grins sadly and pats his face, Where you and your sister must go I cannot follow for now. You are young and strong and my bones are old. For what you have to face I would be a hindrance, and I will not do that to you. Fret not, my child, we will see each other again after you go. I have seen it.

"Where is it that my sister and I must go, grandmother?" Pytor asks uneasily. Already the craving for drink gnaws at his throat. He shoves the thoughts down. For now the matters at hand prove more pressing.
"Nevertheless, I can not leave you alone in the wilderness. If we are to part ways, it must be after I know that you are somewhere safe."

Oh, a long journey and one of peril. I can take care of myself to a point, but you would not be at your best if you were concerned for me. She pats his arm again but scoffs lightly, Boy these woods are as home to me as any other place. I have traveled among them myself for... well nearly as long as you have been alive. There is no danger here for me until it is my time, and you and I will see each other again, so you've nothing to fret over. Come... let's be on our way...

She flips the reins and drives the cart onward, down a narrow trail leading from the hill in the general direction of the redstone cliffs

[sorry for delays. once I get the other thread in position, we'll join you up with the party]

Content with her answer, Pytor turns his thoughts and questions to things more mundane. "The people of this and nearby lands... do they have any habits or customs which I should be aware of?" He ignores the thirst for strong drink that already begins to gnaw at his gut.

[Couldn't think of too much more to ask her from his perspective without metagaming. He is just going to continue to be on guard and pick her brain for information. Also, I got caught up with the holidays and didn't realize I had waited so long to reply.]

[no worries. I have been on an impromptu hiatus myself. holidays and other irl things cropped up. glad to see you still with us]

Customs? Yes... the people in this land of Kartakass live in a world of song... it fills their every day. Whether work or sport or sitting down to a simple meal they will sing... every last one of them sings with the voice of an angel... or a siren... They bear blue-violet eyes almost to the last one, and hair of black or gold or white as the purest snow... they're not overly friendly with outsiders.. though they know a bit of the traveling people, which may afford you some protection... though it will likely attract unwanted attention as well...

"Hmnn... So if you speak with these people, do you have to speak in a song? What type of unwanted attention would that be, grandmother?"

She chuckles, No, no, they speak normally. But they will sing when about their chores or befpre and afrer a meal. The language is another thing. They speak what they call Harmonian. It is a very musical language. But one who speaks elven can usually be found among them.

She shakes her head sadly, No more trouble than gypsies of all lands find when in settlements. But superstitions and the like are powerful things.

"That is an attention that I know all too well... At least I can assume if such things are the same here as elsewhere, then I assume a skilled craftsman or a strong arm can always find employment here as well?"

The old woman nods, the life of wanderers always frought with mistrust. To the other she grins somewhat. Wherever you find people there is always the need for safety and work to be done. I'm certain you could find a way to ploy one or the other against your monetary needs. But that may not needs be much of a concern for a time...

Pytor's thoughts go back to when he was a child and the village elders would teach the children how to behave in different regions when a thought comes to him... "Tell me grandmother... Is there anything that I should never do in front of the people of these lands?"

She pauses, thinking seriouly about it. No different really than many other lands... but... Wolves.

She turns her aged face to him more fully. Kartakass is a land of wolves, my boy. They are powerful... dangerous... but... they are also revered here. Speak to ill of them, and you may bring unwanted attention... to well of them and you may find yourself even more alienated... She turns back, People do not like to think on them here. Burying their heads in their mother's dresses and pretending it's all fine... Game will be scarce, and travel alone hazardous. But we will get you to company safe. And fret not over me.. my sight guides my path and i have... old friends i can call upon at need...

Pytor lets her words sink in, partially distracted by the gnarling thirst that haunts him. He had spent too many nights drowned in a bottle... "And what if one finds himself forced to slay a wolf in this land?"
