Now a veteran lockpicker, Haahqae isn't phased by the challange of a couple new locks, but overhearing voices does shift his priorities. What's the use in discovering another storage room or locked, trapped treasure chest? What he needs is information about where Ismene is and why the prefect is so stupid, not a detailed report of where the prefect needs to order his maids to dust more thoroughly.

Staying as quite and invisible as possible, Haahqae moves closer to the voices to listen in on the conversation.

"Wait. Prisoners?" Kendra asks. "I was under the impression that it was one prisoner."

Haahqae (Prefect's Mansion)
Making his way east, Haahqae reaches the end of the hallway to find a door that is slightly ajar. He can hear two people on the other side speaking. Once he is closer, he can make out what they are saying much easier.

"Have the prisoners been transferred yet?"

"Yeah. Except for the gnome. She's still rotting in the basement."

"Damn. Was hoping I'd be free of guard duty tonight."

"No such luck. Kitchen staff is making her dinner now. You may as well go get it and bring it to her now. At least that way you can grab some grub for yourself first."

"Yeah, yeah."

He then hears retreating footsteps.

Kendra Synclair (Grand Market)
"I was told it was two," Perp replies. "A human and a dwarf. They're on their way now with a full contingent of guards."

Gobax and Shima (Northwestern Haven Sewers)
The pair check the pathway that leads west but turns south. When they turn the corner they discover...it seemingly leads to a dead-end.

"....I wasn't told anything about a human," Kendra says with wide eyes. ~He doesn't expect me to kill someone else does he?~ "Do you know his charges?" she asks.

"The last dead end had a gelatinous cube in it. Semd a stone up there, would you, please?" asks Shima. "I want to check the end for any concealed stonework. it heads in the right direction."

Rather than ise his sling stones, Gobax looks for a small stone nearby and hurls it to the end of the passage. (If he can't find one, he'll throw a sling stone)

What did he mean by transferred? Sent off to be executed? But the important part was that Ismene was still here in the basement! And… unless these guards are wrong, she’s expected to be there tonight as well, which means she isn’t going to be executed today. That is a (great) relief, but still, trusting some stupid baaz (are they baaz?) who barely know what’s going on is probably not his top source of information he could possibly pull from.

Haahqae doesn’t really recall seeing a basement in this building. No stairs down anywhere. He did recall seeing the kitchen, and if he can get there fast enough, he could follow the dinner-bearer to the cell and try and figure out what to do from there.

As quickly as he can without making an excessive amount of noise or bowling over any maids, Haahqae makes his way back down to the first floor and into the kitchen.

Haahqae (Prefect's Mansion)
Haahqae makes his way back downstairs to the first floor, then heads for the kitchen area. He has to wait for someone to open the door, because there are too many guards around for him to open it himself without arousing suspicions. Eventually, a member of the cooking staff steps inside, allowing the gnome to slip in behind.

The kitchen is an L-shaped room and smells strongly of delicious food. To the south, right by the door he entered from, is a rack from which several dead, plucked pheasants hang. Nearby that is a large basket filled with green apples.

There are two stoves and two counters for cutting up food with knives. A decent sized kitchen staff moves about, hurrying to and fro in preparing dinner.

To the north, there is a staircase leading down into the basement. He spots a single servant heading down there, carrying a small plate of food.

Kendra Synclair (Grand Market)
"Yeah, he attacked the prefect," Perp replies. "Tried to cast some kind of spell on him and failed. Oh, here they come now."

Coming from the west are a large contingent of soldiers and black robed clerics, surrounding two men in chains. Kendra recognizes them both--the dwarf priest who attacked her before and Gregeddin.

The former looks quite the mess. He's badly bruised; his face practically resembles ground up beef. One of his eyes is missing or perhaps just swelled shut; it's hard to say. Gregeddin, meanwhile, looks like he has lost quite a bit of weight. He has a haggard beard on his face, evidence of not shaving for some time.

Gobax and Shima (Northwestern Haven Sewers)
Not finding any stones nearby, Gobax tosses one of his own down the hallway. It flies through the air, strikes the back wall with a loud 'click' sound, bounces off and then clatters to the ground after a bit.

Gobax approaches and searches the wall for any secret passages, the dead-end not making sense to him.

Kendra pales upon seeing Gregeddin. She was positive that she had told the prefect no when it came to killing him, but it seems as if he didn't listen. ~What am I suppose to do now?~ she asks herself. There wasn't much she could do at this point. All eyes were on her, and if she didn't kill him who knew what would happen to her after that?

Shima goes and detects for moving or shifting stonework at the dead end. If nothing, he leads back to the unexplored northern tunnel to head west. If there is then a choice of tunnels, he will follow to the south (failing which, west)

Haahqae (Prefect's Mansion)
Haahqae follows the servant downstairs, into some kind of store room. From there, the servant takes a door into a much larger storage room. He heads south to another door, where there are two baaz guards. "Got dinner for the last prisoner," the servant says. The guards unlock the door and let him through. Haahqae squeezes in with him before the shut the door.

Inside are three jail cells and a door to the east. The first and third cells are empty. The middle one, however, is occupied. Ismene sits within, looking very beat up and filthy. She's wearing grey rags instead of her usual pristine red robes. She flinches visibly as the servant sets the tray of food at the edge of her cell, just in reach. He then heads back to the door and knocks so the guards let him out.

Kendra Synclair (Grand Market)
The two prisoners are marched up onto the stage. Strangely enough, the prefect's elderly butler is among them. He nods politely to Kendra as the the prisoners are forced into a kneeling position with their necks exposed, ready for execution.

"I hope you have some prepared remarks before we begin," the butler says softly to Kendra.

Gobax and Shima (Northwestern Haven Sewers)
After both of them investigate quite thoroughly, they find no evidence of secret passageways or hidden doors. Shima immediately departs, heading up to the north passageway. It does not turn south, but rather ends with a door.

Kendra actually didn't have any words prepared for this event, but she was sure she could come up with something on the spot. She looked away from the crowd for a moment so that she could compose herself, and then turned to face the crowd. "People of Haven, you are here today to witness the execution of two people that have been causing havoc in our great city," she calls out to the people. "For summoning a fire elemental and fire snakes, harming citizens of Haven, the soldiers protecting them, and even myself, you," she says, motioning to the dwarf cleric, "are sentence to death," she says. She then moves in front of Gregeddin. "And for making a direct attempt on the prefect's life, you are also sentence to death. Do any of you have any last words?" she asks.

Shima checks the door.

======
Which part of "leads" means "departs (and leaves on his own)" ?
Seriously, why did you have the dwarf act like that?
