The barmaid smiled, 'very good' she saunters off cutting through the throng of patrons.

Moment later she comes back with a black clay bowl filled with soup and rare gamey rabbit, some cornbread and a wooden goblet full of clean water.

A hooded Elf moves over to your table and offers to sell you a treasure map, he says 'a map to some treasure deeply hid in some ancient Dwemer ruins. Hundred gold, no less. For such a pittance it's practically giving it for free my friend"

'Give it away' to someone else, I'm eating. Idrys replies, blood from the rare meat dribbling down his chin.

@Idrys: you catch the hooded elf trying to pick your pocket! Two bouncers quickly appear and grab the elf, escorting him outside. Bouncer #1 punches him hard in the abdomen and then the face 'don't you ever come back here again or you'll loose a finger next time, you stupid sonofabitch!'

The first bouncer says 'your meal and drinks are on the house, sorry for any troubles, please continue eating'

@John:

The woman's left eyebrow arched up at receiving the news, 'Drow eh? No, I have not. The Dwarven Empire is sufficiently rich and powerful to contend with such troubles I'm fairly certain. As for myself I have also come a long way, all the way from Elsmyere in the south. I slew a drow elf in the Dark Elf Lands once during my rite of passage. Yet that is the extent of my experience with the hated ones. Of course, I did not mean to disrupt your business, forget I even mentioned it. I am Kessa of Elsmyere. I've also been called here, though it is a mystery who the summoner is. I rather hate mysteries, really'.

As the barmaid came to deliver your meade, you noticed an icecube in your drink. She looked at you and whispered in perfect Dwarven: 'othok should listen oz your Drinkir, it has somethuroz interesturoz oz say oz othok (you should listen to your drink, it has something interesting to say to you).'

You notice there's a raven perched on the chandelier gazing quietly on all in the immense commonroom.

As you do so, a voice whispers into your ear, said in a clear articulate and distinguished voice: 'in an hour, follow the raven, bring the Elsmyrian ranger. But first, there is an Elf of House Stillwater due to arrive within the hour. Keep a lookout. If not, do not bother and come as you are'.

fyi the woman isn't an Elf, just a human.

She looks to be 6'0 in height, with chestnut colored brunette hair, in elaborate braids, and a natural olive tinge to her complexion. She is clad in black spike studded leather armor. She turned to you and says 'I come at behest of my Empress Lady Azonia. She answers the summons out of an old pact betwixt Elsmyere and the house she suspects has initiated this gathering. 'If you would know of me personally, I range the horselands and am mostly familiar with the south areas of Nyr and northern Elsmyere. I have been working out of Southern Cross until I ventured here. I enjoy killing orcs and kobolds, and get paid good reward for it. My spear I've named sorrowful man, my preferred weapon of choice'.

Kessa

AS KARLENE BLACKCLOUD entered the Inn, she's greeted by a large crowd of various beings, mostly drunks, farmers, merchants, a few unemployed looking mercs. She rolls the barrel when:

A brown haired woman seated with next to a dwarf suddenly throws a dagger across the room and it embeds in the center of the barrel, out of which pours forth a stream of sweet smelling liquid. The woman points to Karlene and beckons her over, smiling briefly at her 'Ah, there's the one I was instructed to keep eyes out for. Karlene Blackcloud, from the royal city? Come, have a seat. Our mysterious meeting is due to transpire at the tail end of the hour."

AS KARLENE looked about, she noticed a man sulking in the shadows near the hearth, and she sensed something about this man something familiar but she could not tell why or how, and neither Idrys Stormcrow noticed the girl too and that she was very obviously not a half-elf but another dhampir!

By the deepest circle of hell... a Dhampir?! he wonders to himself, somewhat stunned. Standing, Idrys approaches the table and newcomer; addressing the trio together. To the group he appears not as himself but a towering 6'4" half-elf of slender build that moves with a certain grace like a dancer or a skilled fighter. It seems there is some work to be done. I am looking for a job if there is room for one more. He tries to keep his gaze even, but his eyes drift to Karlene's face occasionally.

The brunette female fighter beckons Idrys to be seated, 'So long as you can hold your own, warrior and wield a weapon properly, you're accepted' she said in stride, then whistled and sung something toward the raven which flew down and into the middle of the table, seemingly to gaze upon each one of you.

One of the bouncers: 'Waste of good wine, why'd that crazy Elsmyrian do such a thing?'

Bartender: "Why don't you go ask?"

bouncer: "Uh, I know better than to fuck with an Elsmyrian, especially a ranger' he admitted.

Suddenly the raven flew away, cawing loudly and it flew up the stairs, then downward, down a flight of winding stairs. The stairwell lead to a corridor full of doors, and at the far end was a set of double doors. The raven cawed again, as if calling you over to it. It was perched above the set of doors, where two fighters clad in gray full platemail stood taut and alert, shields emblazoned with a Lions head, in the Lion's maw a sword.

The first of the two knights knocks on the door and says something, then when you gain the door they stop you, saying 'your weapons, please, until the meeting is concluded, remains here with me. You have your jobs, I have mine."

Kessa hands the guard what appears to be a collapsable spear, a scimitar, a shortbow, a quiver of javelins, seven throwing daggers, a whip, and a pair of bolas.

Knight: " lightly armed for an Elsmyrian, are you certain that's all?"

Knight #2: "perhaps you should search her, every inch of her, be thorough we wouldn't want to miss anything"

Kessa did not know how to react, and both men smiled jokingly 'lighten up, lass, we only jest. My beleaguered comrade here hasn't seen such a beaut in such a long while I think he's beginning to regain his virginity. Go right in after you've left your arms"

Beyond the double doors was a rectangular fest hall, furnished with a rectangular table long enough to seat 30 people comfortably. At the end was a single man, next to him a woman and a man. The man at the furthest end of the table was evidently a mage, with an ageless visage and cobalt colored eyes that were glowering an unatural blue light so brightly they provided enough illumination to read by in inky pitch black darkness. On his right was a brown haired man clad as a ranger, and the woman was wearing a white robe that glowed white as if the material were made of light instead of cloth. Her face looked feminine and delicate, and she exuded an aura of calm self assurance.

The man with glowing eyes extended a hand and the doors slammed shut behind you. There was a nice spread of food made available, enough to feed an army. Most noteworthy was the roasted boar.

"At last you've all arrived. I bid you greetings, I am Alzor Dam of House Telemvor. These are my boon companions: Sybil of Harkonnia, and her protector Bane, a ranger from Sterich. Please, have something delicious to eat, you've come all this way and the food here was specially made" he paused to sip some flowery smelling tea then proceeded 'Let us forgo the usual pleasantries, and I will talk while you enjoy the viddles. I took the liberty of assembling this party together with meticulous thought, and with magic inlaid into the foundations of said thought.

I have work which is of great import unto myself and the restoration of my houses faded glory, its waned reputation. This work requires precision, collaboration, working in tandem to achieve greater fruits for those efforts. As recompense, you will be given salaries by House Telemvor and access to certain resources such as men, equipment, and information.

The first of these works will be an exploration of some ruins. The ruins were once those of castle Draxcon in the dark elf lands. However, this expedition cannot go underway without some pertinent information I spent good coin to procure from the forbidden archives of the Lorian library. Unfortunately my contact in Lor was supposed to meet me two nights ago to deliver said information, but went missing. Last time I tracked him by my familiar he was safe and sound within the Salt Marsh north of here. The documents he kept hid inside the hallow handle of a mace, which he used to smuggle the documents out of the great library.

We need that mace. The documents have a map and detailed notes regarding Draxcon from secret passwords that activate and deactivate stone guardians to secrets and things concerning the keep. Something only a knight of the mind would bother compiling such knowledge for useage. Finding my agent and the mace would be a simple but crucial task requiring your powers of deduction and investigation. What say you?"

Idrys lounges against the wall halfway along the table. Raising one gloved hand he draws a table knife to him, which whips through the air as if thrown. Catching it deftly (dex 17) he begins picking bits of rabbit from his teeth. I have already dined, but thanks all the same. So if we are to find him we must begin in the Salt Marsh... but these resources... what sort of information are you offering access to?

Karlene is about five and a half feet tall, green eyed and with shoulder length untamed black hair and of half-elven appearance. She wears black leather clothes (not armour) and has a quarterstaff slung across her back.

Unphased, she sets the barrel upright so that no more wine is lost and picks up the dagger, and tucks it (for now) in her belt. ~Let him ask for it~ she thinks.
"You may need to pay for that," she says to the thrower.

Before she can recruit mercenaries for the wine merchant, knights and others enter and take over the conversation in the room. ~Let's go with it,~ she thinks, and follows the others into the room, surrendering her quarterstaff without anything other than a muted smile.

While listening to Alzor's monologue Karlene looks around the room, noting each person, their attire, their bearing. The only one she looks at more than twice, barring Alzor, is Idrys.

She nods at the offer of food and listens to whatever information Idris is able to draw out, adding her own queries as the discussion proceeds. {OOC: Intelligence Gathering (18)}

Alzor grinned at Idry's little magic trick. The knife comes just short of Idrys's left eye before he catches it (dex check: 17 succeeded). The magic-user with the glowing blue eyes said 'You would have privy to our smiths, our servants, our spies information network, and can expect a substantial discount and line of credit in most markets throughout Nyr, Jez'zur, Impiltur, and other lands my family has holdings and affairs in. In addition passage aboard Telemvor ships, couriers, and steeds. There are also many safe houses in nearly every city you would be permitted use of, which are well provisioned and staffed. I would not overextend myself with these courtesies, some of my siblings are easily piqued, I would not wish to have to explain myself why 'the help' are behaving as if they were Lords and Ladies, not that I consider you the help by any means. I anything I consider you friends I've yet to have met, and I pray you will do the same ere long."

The mage devoured portion of a quarter chicken then continued 'I would have you know that a previous expeditionary force was sent four months ago, in late spring. Their failure was every bit my own as was theirs, they did not know what to expect or anticipate. Hence why I've gone through painstaking lengths to ensure the Lorians assisted me in all the legwork of preparations, analyzing every critical angle in granular detail. Ordinarily they would have provided me the documents I presently lack with gusto. Someone within the order laid a lock on these crucial files. The move is not simply bold, it is also dangerous for the priesthood since my own house tithes considerably to the church's coffers. And, such a lock tells me someone somewhere has strong political power in the north to achieve such an act in so little time. Influence and power well above my own, or any citylord in Lor for that matter. It is simply theoretical conjecture on my part, but I do believe there is a Dark Lorian who conspires to work against my efforts and gaining answers to a greater mystery." the mage stood up and slowly strode along the length of the room. He locked eyes with Idrys briefly, saying 'each of you stand to gain a piece of your own puzzle in this. If you can during your travels discover the fate of the previous party, that would alleviate my unease and I could compensate their families for their losses" he turned back to Idrys and said 'you especially will discover something of relative worth unto your own unique role in the grand scheme of things, things which even the Lorians would be unwilling and able to provide you. As I stated, I cherry picked each of you specifically'.

The tall, dark figure weighs the man's words carefully, holding each nuance he could up to the light of information the priestess had bestowed upon him. This man turned his back easily on another with a knife; a sign of foolishness or confidence. Idrys seriously doubted it was the former. Politely he returned the knife to the table. Under your stated terms, I agree. One step closer to the information I need... But what will she do? He watched the others for response, eyes cutting back to Karlene in particular occasionally.
