Re: Re-visiting insanity

I think we'll all have somewhat different experiences with the rule. If you get players who think it's fair to limit demi-humans because they want to play humans, and if the DM agrees, then absolutely it's the right choice for that group. I've never criticized how people choose to use the rule, only...

Re: Re-visiting insanity

Not at all. I recall agreeing with you on those. Wanting a mainly human party. That's legitimate. All I'm saying is that the over-used "100th level elves will rule the world" trope has been repeatedly proven to be nonsense. Along with most of the other "concerns" people have when...

Re: Re-visiting insanity

Bingo! I've ranted about this topic more often than most others (parse that as: more than most other topics as well as more than most other people). And in the end, the only conclusion is always that the rule serves no purpose other than to coerce players into playing humans. Period. And even ...

Re-visiting insanity

I don't understand it. I've never understood it. I never will understand it. Why do people go through such elaborate contortions to "balance" the game when they decide to remove demi-human level limits? I know, here we go again. But I just don't get it. I was reading a blog and ended up cl...

Thanks Cole! I called tech support when I realized they'd done a PHP update. Got them to fix it, so we're up and running!

Re: Hybrid 1E/5E Rules

Not trying to be snarky, but there is a perfect fix for that. Just play 1E. All bias aside, I've not seen an edition past 2E that has made the game better. Each has only made it less and less like D&D and more and more like Superhero Powers. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Very litt...

Re: Hybrid 1E/5E Rules

Unearthed Arcana only changed a few things for rangers. They gained weapon specialization, they got a more detailed tracking system, and it expanded the "giant class" list for species enemy. I think that was about all. I'm assuming you're referring to the 1E ranger. Not sure about later (3...

At 30:24, that right there is why I sneer at these new games. Power-gamer heaven. This ain't D&D.

Re: Hybrid 1E/5E Rules

I don't know...maybe it's just my years of experience in the old systems, but to me it seems to be a hell of a lot easier to take an early edition like 1E or 2E and tweak it to fit your needs perfectly than to either try gene-splicing two totally different editions or trying to reinvent the wheel (i...
