Another example of what's wrong with D&D these days

It really just makes me shake my head in derision. Here's a perfect example of what's wrong with the game these days: https://kotaku.com/d-ds-upcoming-adventure-will-debut-probably-its-grosses-1825935283 "D&D's grossest monster" . Uh-huh. Spews blood and bile all over. Uh-huh. Sounds l...

Re: Animated D&D Maps

Pretty cool, especially that last one with the river. To tell the truth though, I've been moving away from technology in my games. Using something like this, it borders on becoming a video game. For so many years (back in the days) all we had was some black and white art and our imagination . And th...

Re: Collecting and ebay

It's mostly the simple Law of Supply and Demand. Most of the older stuff is getting harder and harder to find, and collectors want it. As collectors hoard their winnings, there are fewer and fewer copies available, hence the supply does not meet the demand and price goes up. As players of the origin...

Re: Collecting and ebay

Sigh. As usual, gotta clarify things for those who don't have a clue. No, I don't have PTSD. Great, now you go and disparage all our veterans who have PTSD with that statement, because you're triggered like a snowflake. It's not even a close thing. You're one of the most delicate, oversensiti...

Re: Collecting and ebay

I see I've triggered someone tonight.  You're such a hypocrite. You've house ruled both of those editions yourself. So apparently they were broken and required fixing. No hypocrisy at all in my post. I use very, very few house rules. Of those few house rules, it's about 99% either ig...

Re: Collecting and ebay

That's because everything from 3E on is crap. Literally. Every time I go to Half Priced Books I see shitloads of that garbage, much of it in unused condition. Nobody wants it. I asked at one store about this and they said it never sells. They try transferring it to other stores, etc. Some of them wo...

Re: dispel magic and undead?

No, for the simple reason that it would emasculate liches. The lich is supposed to be a very high level opponent. Being able to bring him down with a simple 3rd level spell makes no sense.

Re: Dispel magic - repeated attempts?

That makes sense. There's a few other spells where other options exist. Can't think of one off the top of my head (dead tired). Dispel evil and dismissal? Or dismissal and abjure? Similar effects, but different spells.

Garhkal wrote: Fare enough. As a linked q.. IF someone was magically held (paralyzed) and got targeted by a lightning bolt/fireball, should they still get a save to take 1/2 damage, as there's no way they can dodge it? Here I'd say no. They can't dodge or avoid it. A saving throw is all about trying...

Dispel magic - repeated attempts?

A wizard or cleric attempts to dispel a magical effect using dispel magic . He fails. Does he get another chance? Can he cast another dispel magic in a second attempt (assuming he has the spell memorized twice)? I've always done it where once you fail, you fail. It means that caster is not able to o...

Re: Changing odd rules

On second thought, you're probably right. It's not a disease. But which spell would best be used to counter nausea and weakness? A cure light wounds spell? I can see using cure disease , if nausea is considered disease-like. What I'm saying is that curing or healing nausea magically makes more sense...

Re: Changing odd rules

That makes no sense. Neutralize poison does one thing - it neutralizes poison. It doesn't negate sonic attacks. If that were the case, it would work against harpies, for example. It has nothing to do with spell level.
